Starting in second gear, not a problem. Shifting w/o using the clutch... Well, I wouldn't do it. Sure, your tranny can take that abuse, for a while. Eventually you will bend a shift fork or something though. If you want to shift w/o the clutch, maybe you should look into a Rekluse that lets you do just that.

It took Polaris a while to get a good shifting tranny in the Pred. True the earlier ones don't powershift very well but I think this was fixed with the '05 model year? Tranny design has a lot to do with how tolerant the quad(or bike) is of shifting w/o the clutch. Most of the big 4 are pretty durable, but my thought is if you care about your equipment, why abuse it. Now if I was racing in an organized competition, that might be another story.

i agree with DaBeechMan completely. when drag racing my 84 atc 250r with stock trans you must let off the throttle or pull the clutch to shift but from my experience pulling the clutch and holding the throttle wide open has given me my fastest time 5.611 300ft and my most wins ...
