Default LTZ400 or what else ?

I'm going to be getting a new quad and have been looking at the ltz400. I do a lot of everything. I ride MX, dunes and trails. I want to know if there are any other quads out there that are good for my type of riding and that might be better than the ltz400. Any help appreciated.

Never been much of a pol. guy but i'd like to see you on an outlaw or predator. The outlaw with that independant rear end should ride like a water bed. I'd think that thing would eat up trails and sand! Thats all i have...

I think the Z400 and the Raptor 700 are the 2 best all purpose sport quads. The predator wouldnt be a bad choice either have one that rides with us and he likes it alot (the seat was just uncomfortable to me). Outlaw might not be bad but dont know any one with one and never had the pleasure to try one out.

The new kawasaki 450 might be worth waiting on as well but we will have to wait and see

Thanx u 2 for replying, i'll have to try out the outlaw and preditor for i have never had a chance on either of them , but my decision will be on one of the 4 quads mentioned here.

Don't bother with the Outlaw unless you've only ridden IRS machines and you are not an agressive rider.

I rode one and they are a crappy gimmick IMO that still need a LOT of refining. It rides fine at slow to medium speeds but if you really start pushing it things start to get VERY strange and scary. They are almost impossibe to slide around a corner, they body-roll like a car in turns. And FORGET any whoops or off-cambers, the thing just goes where ever it wants....it steers itself with the rear wheels depending on traction I guess. And getting off a ramp was a nightmare for me, unless you are perfectly centered the thing just jumps off the trail...... Choppy sections or whoops are insane, you can't just GAS it to straighten it out if it swaps a little, giving it gas makes things even worse... the thing starts pulling all over the trail and tries to toss you off in all directions.

I like the solid axles much better for sport riding. I'll take a slightly rougher ride ANY day for the control and handling you get with a solid axle.....

the z400 won't keep up with any of the 450s. The 450r can handle trails and mx well and it has a lot more power, the other two 450s are more for mx.

Thanx ss97 and 88mxR for ur replies. The info u gave me has helped, and is appreciated.
I think I will be going for a YFZ450, TRX450R or a LTZ400.
My choice is going to be determined by what type of terrain I'm going to be riding more often, dunes and trail or mostly MX.

Thanks again.

I own the Z400 and the LTR450 and both are great quads. For what you sound like you're going to be riding the Z probably would be the best bet IMOA. I've ridden the YFZ450's and the TRX450's and yes, they are also great quads.... but I found the YFZ to sit to nose heavy and the seat was terrible... and the TRX's suspension didn't feel right.... I have friends that own just about all the major sport quads out there so I've tried them all. As ss97 stated, the Outlaw is really bad.... I rode one at Hollister Hills for chits and giggles one time and it felt like I was draging the rear end around the track there... It didn't handle right on the jumps or turns. Once I got off of it I realized why - the rear a-arms look like someone in high school welding class made them. The rear end was VERY heavy. I couldn't figure out why in the world Polaris went with those a-arms with all the technology that has been created over the past 8 years... That is it's biggest down fall IMOA. The Raptor 700R is a nice quad. It's very fast and rides great as well. I just didn't care how I felt in the turns (tippy). EFI is the next step for 07 for the YFZ450 and TRX450 I think.

Until the LTR came out I was really close to getting the YFZ in Dec until I saw the LTR first hand and sat on in at an offroad demo show up north. And don't let anyone tell you the LTR is to wide to trail ride... I ride mine on trails all the time and it works out just fine. We ride dunes and trails and have no problems to date. Not to mention there are many companies out there that sell aftermarket parts for the sport class quads now. The Z's and Honda 400EX's lug paterns are the same so rims/tires are no problem finding.

Price wasn't a factor for me but if is for you, you may want to stick with the 400 quads since the 450's are more pricey.

Thanx s9195 for ur reply. Cost is not a problem for me, to know from someone who has and rides a LTR450 on trail, and says it rides well and is not too wide, is then true. I want to go for a 450, but the LTZ400 has got such good handling and I can get really cheap aftermarket parts for it, so this turns me to getting a LTZ400.

But thanx for the reply.

id say go for the z400. we just got one and i love it. always seems to have power when you want it, shocks are nice and in the trails you can keep up with the 450's
