Default How to setup a grizzly660 for gncc utility class racing

What would you have to do to a 05grizzly 660 to race it in gncc utitlity class? What kind of tires would you want to run? What else would you want to do to it?

First, what class do you want to run? Stock vs modified, lots of difference on what you can change.

TIres: Bighorns, Bearclaw EX, Terracross, Bounty Hunters would all be decent choices. Run the best, toughest tire you can afford.

Suspension: The best you can afford. Elkas are great, try to go for reservoirs before adjustments if money is an issue, adjustments don't matter if the shocks heat up too much. Works is another company that makes shocks for Grizz's.

Steering Stabilizer/Damper: Put one of these on that Grizz. Will help very much for unwanted kickback and twisting of the handlebars on rough terrain.

Offset Rims: Douglas and OMF makes great aftermarket rims. Try to get something with either beadlocks or at least re-inforcing rings. If you can't afford aftermarket, try to get a metal shop to beef up the stockers and get some spacers for increased width and handling. Disc spacers are better than stud ones.

Handlebars: Get rid of those stock bars. Put on a Rox riser or any riser you can find, with some aftermarket handlebars in the bend you'd like. Protaper, Fasstco, Tag, Renthal, Universal, Moose, Fly, Magura, MSR all make decent bars.

Skidplates: Can't race if you break your frame. Aluminum or UHMW Polyethelyne works good. Richochet, Perfex(Hebco Distributing), Aluminum Products, all make decent skids.

Brakes: If you can, change out the stock brake lines for stainless steel braided lines. If not, then at least change out your stock pads with some better aftermarket ones, like sintered pads from EBC, DP, among others.

Grips: If you can salvage the stockers, use them but if you can swing it then go for some nice aftermarket ones like Spiders or ODI lockon's.

Seat Cover: Try to find a gripper seat cover if you can, this will be made out of a material that is slip resistent and will help you stay on the quad without sliding around on it nearly as much.

Footpeg Traction: Try to get some aftermarket footpegs, such as Level One Performance, 2R Racing, Rox, Moose to put on it for better grip with your boots.

Now, motors mods depends on the class. But if you want to run in modified, then read on.

Airfilter: UNI or TwinAir. Foam filter is much better than K&N for mud/dust.

Exhaust: Get a good slip-on system. HMF, FMF, SuperTrapp, Big Gun, among others make decent pipes. FMF makes one without packing and in stainless steel, less maintenance.

Spark Plug: Put a nice iridium spark on there. NGK makes good ones.

Jetting: Jet this bike properly. Do as much tuning and tweaking before the race to make sure it is running as pristine as possible.

Then stuff like big bore kits, camshafts, higher compression, port and polish, clutching, all do lots. Respond back if you want more info.

And go over EVERY single part on that quad and make sure every single nut, bolt, etc is tight and everything is on and nothing is missing, make sure there are no broken welds or cracks in the frame, inspect EVERY single inch on that quad to make sure it is in the best condition you can afford to put it in.

Yeah sorry, a tether lead connected to the kill switch is a MUST.
