When I open the bleeder valve from the pedal I get brake fluid with a lot of air, from the handle bar I a full stream of fluid. Also, do the from and rear brakes have separate brake fluid reserves(haven't torn down this ATV all the way and it's my first)? And about how much does a rear caliper cost?

Should be what looks like a small slave cylinder just about where your right ankle would be when you sit on the quad. This is the cylinder for the break pedal only. Lots of those lose pressure and either don't work or just barely do. Others seem to function fine. One on my boss worked for a while after bleeding but slowly faded. The trail blazer we had it worked just fine.

From the dealer, a lot. I'd check ebay and see what you can find. Maybe even Craigslist to see if someone locally is parting one out. That might be a long shot though.

I got a rear brake cylinder (the one that is for rear brakes only with the foot pedal) off eBay for $39 or so. Much better than what the stealership wanted. I managed to jam the pedal too hard and seized the cylinder.

I think I'll stark looking around for the cylinder then. I'm gonna try and have a friend check it out though in case he can help me get fix it and also tune the carburetor since its really burning up spark plugs.

The XC races I've been in have tech inspection before the race, where they check for things like functional brakes. Get the brakes fixed or you'll be turned away at tech inspection.

Where do you live what circuit do you want to race in XC we race a 2 local ones and this year nothing but GNCC. We will be glad to help you anyway we can. And yes you can race it, my son raced a polaris 200 phoenix for his first bike but be sure the machine and your body is in perfect condition as XC is long and grueling unlike any other sport. I may have a tether I will give you if you will pm me, as well as lots of tires and wheels if you can give me the size info. All for free as long as you pay shipping. Let me know and good luck. Its super fun

I try to stay on my ATV all day when I go offroading and to try every turn, rut, log and anything else that requires some technique so that I can get used to riding all day. Its kinda tricky though since I go with guys all driving Jeeps and Land Rovers. And that would awesome if you can give me the tether. Ill PM you. Right now Im a junior in highschool with no job and I got to pay all my stuff which Ive realized that it can get pricey really fast. So far the only thing Ive replaced on this ATV is the spark plug and the starter. My dad thinks Im an idiot for wanting to race but I dont really mind as he hasnt really supported in anything since 6th grade. I dream of racing in Baja some day so thats what pushes me to learn how to ride endurance races and fix my own stuff

It runs great. Just have to warm it up a bit. It's the stopping that has me stumped. I wonder if there's a way to get put an aftermarket rear caliper on to save cash cause I think getting a new one from Polaris is gonna cost me more than its worth

Be sure to check other models as well. Just a quick check showed the Scrambler for that year uses the same caliper. Check this site and see about the trail blazer and possibly the non irs magnum. Even if you can't find it on ebay, I'd go with Ronnies or another online supplier instead of the dealer. Not a whole lot cheaper, but saving a little money is always good.

As far as the "once it gets warmed up" part, these models were really cold natured. Once they did get warm, they ran fine.
