Racing Polaris scrambler(haresramble)
#1
Thinking about racing my 400 scrambler in a Haresramble? Everybody says don't do it(water crossings bad, belt slips????)What machine is popular for haresramble events? Would like to use the polaris (no shifting). I thinking I could be better than those shifters?(No shifting just go,go,go). Your thoughts are very much helpful good or bad, shifters and non shifters. Thanks

Personally, I like to change my own gears. Polaris is okay, but I think the auto shift should be left to the go-cart/snow-mobile world.
As far as the belt slipping, you may want to go to the Polaris forumn and ask that question.

I raced a 500scrambler before and they do fine but high speed and water dont mix because of the belt. One thing you can do is alot of people take ther snorkle off down above belt case and run there own hose (dryer hose works) they rought the snorkel/hose to where theres less chance of getting water in it so that the belt does not get wet. Another option is to buy and owterwear and zip tie it over your snorkel this will alow you to use your same snorkel and you'll still get the air that you need and the owterwear will help prevent any big amounts of water from splashing up and going down snorkle into belt. Do either of these and it will help keep water off of the belt and yes the scrambler is fine.

Belt slippage may be a problem, but the Polaris machines have more problems due to their size/weight/handling. Usually only a couple Polaris bikes show up (if any) to any of the HS's that I've been to. Usually they place in the rear 80% of the standings.
By far, the most popluar machine for HS is the Honda 400EX. Then the 250R. These 2 machines practically dominate the standings. The Raptor is starting to become a more frequent racer in these events, but still doesn't consistantly place well in any event I've been to.
Polaris' marketing on their "no shifting" being better is just marketing speak. The CV auto tranny's are nice for new riders, casual riders, and some utility applications, but in performance applications (short of drag racing), they just don't work well.
Now, that said, please don't think I am just hammering your machine - Polaris' are fine in their element - just being realistic in a racing environment. I'd still recommend running some races - you'll likely have a great time, just don't expect to be able to compete with the sport bikes.
You can check out the standings at gnccracing.com or showmeatvracing.com - bike makes are listed along with how they placed at the races - you'll see what I mean by looking at these stats.

so when you say polaris has its problems and the are no good at haresrambles, are you also including the predator. cause they did a test on all the major sport atv's, and they said the predator was the best.....but ive never seen someone ride one in person, so i really dont nononono
