First Race

Most of all,,, take your time in the practice and the heat races,, LEARN THE TRACK!!
This will be a big help, don't go out in the practice and try to beat everybody.
Find your best/fast lines in the track, and Save your best for the Main.
If you get a chance go to the starting line/gate before your race and watch the starts.. How fast does the starter drop flag/gate on the start. Practicing your starts will make a huge difference. It is easier to pass all the riders at the starting gate then on the track!!
Let me know how you do.
GOOD LUCK!!

Defintetly, practice your starts. If you can practice launching your bike maybe in the next few days. I have never ridden a mojave, but try second gear starts as well. To me a good launch is when you take off with enough throttle so you can let the clutch out all the way very fast hopefully within the first 10 ft. of your launch. Do not ride your clutch to much off the line, cause it will slip and you will get passed very quickly off the line. Starts are something that will separate the guys who have alot of experience and the guys that don't. Also, make sure you work on your body positioning try to find a good place on the seat so you can optimize traction and not lift too much off the start. I try to sit as far back as I can and then lean forward almost like if you are riding on a street bike. Once you all launch you will be in close contact with other quads for at least the first 20-30 ft. do not back off generally others will back off and it will be only 3 or 4 quads viaing for the first turn. One last thing about starts if it is a gate start watch the pin that holds the gate up not the gate itself.
During the track practice try and hook up with another rider who seems to know the track use him to figure out the jumps ,rhythm sections and how much speed to carry into the corners. I don't know how tough the track is you are going to race is, but be careful try to learn a little in your first couple races. I see alot of people get way to excited and emotional racing and those are the people who tend to get hurt.

Definitely take your time in practice and figure out the track. Especially if you haven't ever ridden there before. If you have ridden there, still take your time because there could be little changes to it. Don't try to be a hero. If someone is behind you in practice, let them get by. Blocking in practice is the best way to get LOTS of enemies.
You'll notice that all 3 of us mentioned the word "practice" a lot. Thats because that is the only way to get fast. Don't expect a trophy in your first race.

Getting there early and walking the track is key as well. When you walk a track you find all the lines and see where doubles/triples are best taken. Once you walk a track you will see what I mean.
Don't over drive the coarse. If you find your self breaking to hard or not hitting the turns with momentum you are over driving the coarse.
For faster straight away quads take the outside from them. Faster straight away quads usually have less bottom end and need the slide to get the rpm's going, you take away thier slide you take away thier speed.
Just relax, get a good start and have the time of your life.
Man I wish we had a 0-300cc class
