definetly get some handguards. shocks help. one of my friends gave me a tip i thought was interesting...take off one of you grips and fill teh inside with quick drying foam. supposedly it reduces vibration. and nerfs are a near must for woods racing. a good set of 6 ply tires are a big help. it also depends a lot on the rider. hone your riding skills, dont go out to win the 1st time. watch the leaders, see what they do. see when to pass and when not too.
another big tip- you should always be accelerating or braking, never coasting. racing all about having fun, so unless you plan to make a career out of racing, take it easy.

The foam trick is realy, remove grips and inject the inner part of your handle bars with sillicone. This nearly dampens all vibration.

You may also want to add a steering Damper.
