I agree. These trucks are built to haul people, not stuff. They give it a shorter bed to make more room for the rear passengers without making the overall length longer. If you have a trailer I guess it doesn't matter how short the bed is. I guess you can haul a quad in a 5.5 ft bed but a lot of the weight will be sitting on the tailgate. Not the best situation in the world.

I personally like the 8 foot long beds the best. Besides having more room you can haul 4x8 foot sheets of plywood and drywall, etc. with the tailgate closed.
