Default Buying the right ATV

I was wondering what would be a good utility ATV? I am looking to buy a used one from 1999-2002 around 500 cc. it needs to have 4x4, engine braking and possible other neat features. I don’t want to step up to the big bore machines due to $ or step down to far in the 400 ccs because of lack of power. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Very pleased with my 03 Foreman ES. Reliability is hard to beat. Buy it out of state and it's price is competitive.

I am not sure if the 433cc will be enough power?? What does this mean “Buy it out of state and it's price is competitive”? The price is a little heafty at $5999 for a new one.

I looked at them all and the honda rubicon 500 has the best auto transmission on the market, handles better and is more stable than the kodiak 450.
Look around for a 03 left over its the same machine as the 04.
The only draw back to the machine is the full time 4x4 which can be solved easily by installing a warn 424
kit for 2wd or 4wd at the pull of a button.
I had a yamaha 450 kodiak and was not impressed with the belt drive transmission.
Good luck

I can tell you this and i have a kodaic 400 now and yes it has a lot of power but it has the worst bottem end. u need to really rev uit up b4 u feel the hit and then it is not what id call a hit. i have ridden a polaris 500 and an AC. 500. iv tested a vinson and i think that the vuinson has by far the best power. i will hopfully be getting my vison with in the week or in the spring. but i think u should go woth the vinson it is amazine.

I am not sure when the AC, Vinson, Rubicon came out?? Remember I am looking at 2000-2002 machines. If they were out on the market then, how did they compare with the Sportsman? I know the Sportsman and Grizzly has been out since at least 1998.

Get you a 2002 suzuki vinson auto. They are great machines. I have an 03 vinson manual. It is awsome, my opinon the best in the class. You cant go wrong with the vinson. (note: they didnt make the manual version in 02)

I too have to recommend the rubicon because of it's real automatic transmission instead of a belt drive and honda reliability.
