what kind of quad should i buy ....even though i live in the city i can still find places to ride it and i have anywhere from 7000 to spend....

 

what kind of riding will you be doing ie: trails, dunes, mud, hills, racing? what will be your primary type of riding? is this your first quad or prior experience? 2x4 or 4x4? sport or utility style? are you looking for a certain brand or size engine?

mostly racing and tracks....i have ridden an atv before....2X4 sport....

there are a lot of options out there for a good 2x4 sport that you can race and ride tracks with.... you have the yamaha raptor, the yamaha yfz450, the honda 450r, the polaris predator, and the bombardier ds650 (these are all 4 strokes), yamaha banshee(2 stroke). any of these can be modified when you want to make them faster and would be good to get you started racing and riding tracks. read up on posts on these quads or look at articles about them on the net and make your self a list and go to your dealer from there and try and test ride some (if they will let you) atleast sit on them and find out which one feels most comfortable and best fits your needs...... its never to late to start racing...... you may want to check with your race tracks around you to see if they have a size limit on engine you can race with if you are 15..... as far as going in and racing a stock quad you may want to look at the yamaha yfz450 (as long as there is no restrictions for your age on engine size) or maybe a cannondale.

 

The ds is too heavy and large for mx racing. The predator is heavy and has too many cc's to fit into the right classes.

Your choices are really:

Yamaha YFZ 450 - Quickest and best handling bike. Also most expensive and has piston issues.
Honda TRX450R - Very quick and agile bike, Kick start. Tall first gear and more trail oriented.
Suzuki LTZ400 - Strong runner with good handling. Weak frame and much less power then the 450 class.
Honda TRX400EX - Great handling and extremely reliable. Slowest of the bunch.

Take your pick. Price decreases as you go down the list as well.

 

Cannondales are great machines. They are about on par with the YFZ and are more race ready.

Aluminum frames, fuel injection, better suspension, better components.

But, No longer factory supported (out of business). There are parts being sold and the company has been purchased and will be releasing new machines. They are more maintenance than pretty much any stock 4 stroke, but they are also competition caliber machines. There are plenty of knowledgable people that can help you with these bikes.

Not to mention that you can get a moto440 that originally sold for nearly 12k dollars for about 4k with very few hours on it.
