Default Z-400 or 400ex??

Im selling my CR500/250x and looking for a bike that will not kill me. Ive been reading some good reviews of the Z and its clones and have ridden a 400ex. Just wanted anybodies oppinions on what they would get. I ride mostly woods, some of it is technical but i need the top end for the occasional fire road.

Both bikes handle great. I give the EX the edge in the tighter technical stuff, and the Z the edge in the more open stuff. Seeing you ride both, it is a toss up.

Thanks for the reply. I think im goin with the z. I just read an article on it in the new atv 4-wheel action and it rated the KFX wich is the same thing just green over the 400ex and i think im goin with the Z or any of its clones.

I know I just left this reply to another thread, but thought it might help you decide also:
We have a 400ex and a Z400. You can get a gusset kit for a Z400 for the frame. I bought a used Z400 for $3,500 that an older guy only rode around the little trail he made around his yard. That saved quite a bit of money from buying new. There was a shootout in Dirtwheels a couple months ago. The Z400 had much better handling than the 400ex. It also has reverse. They said the 400ex had a little more power in the rough stuff, but overall the Z400 blew it out of the water. My boyfriend hopped on my Z400 the other day and I rode his 400ex. Being a true blue Honda guy, he was so impressed with the handling of the Z400, it was amazing. The seat is comfortable and aerodynamic. You can grab the front of the seat with your knees. Reverse is super easy to go into. You can shift down into first, turn the reverse ****, click down once more and you're into reverse. Then you click up once from reverse and you're right into first again. They definitely knew what they were doing. The only gripe I have with the Z400 is the big honking swing arm. After finally spending some ride time on it though, I no longer feel the need to replace it. What a great quad!

they are both great machines...If I were in your boat I would probably look more into preference...and also if your talking about the z-400 you could also look at the kfx 400 or the artic cat 400 (they all have the same motor) I know the plastic looks sweet on the artic cat 400 and you also might take into consideration if you want reverse..like you would get with the other 400's other than the honda...but honda makes good machines..I would just go with what your preferences are..and if you can...try test riding some of them out.
