The TB250 is a nice little machine, i don't own one but my buddy had one when he first tired out riding to see if he would like it... Good all around machine it can go just about anywhere and do just about everything well.. Its not the fastest thing in the world but hey your just starting out you don't need to go fast and kill yourself...

Honestly, I like both quads and they both have some pro's and cons. Out of those two i would probably lean towards the 250ex...just because I like lighter quads (even though I have a 500 scrammy which needs a diet!) But since your entry level...you might also want to look at the yamaha blaster.

The TB250 is sadly an American version of a Korean or Chinese quad. Reliabillity is **** poor and the advantage of the power over the Honda is offset by the power/weight ratio of the heavier TB250 along with a bad handling chassis compared to the 250EX.
Anyone who has had 12 years of professionally dealing with 6 brands of these things will tell you same thing.
My personal opinion though is to go with the Z250 instead of the 250EX unless you just don't want the Suzuki. The Z250 has better suspension, comparable stock power, comparable price, a engine that has proven itself reliable for over 15 years, and a engine with more hopup parts than the Honda.

"Reliability is **** poor"???? give me a break.... I have seen TB250s that were beat the he!! out of for years and still run fine today the owner(s) only put gas and oil in the quad nothing else...
Just because you prefer "Japanese" ATVs over AMERICAN ones don't mean american ATVs are unreliable....
From your stand point i do understand what you are saying don't get me wrong, but this is a ATV for a kid not a pro racer.....
