which is the better duner???
#1
first of all i am a 13 year old with 3 years of riding experience. i ride dunes and trails, but mostly dunes. i currently have an '86 yamaha moto-4 225cc. ive outgrown this quad and i am looking to upgrade to a faster machine. my 2 choices are the suzuki z400 or the yamaha raptor 660r. my question is: which one is the better duner? im looking for which one is a better sand drag racer, which is a better hillclimber, which is faster, which handles better, and which has all around better dune performance. also, im not gonna modify the quad or put paddles on it, so this applies to the stock machine with the stock tires. thanks for any help, guys, i really appreciate it.

Raptor all the way.
The Z does handle better though. but A-arms and shocks and the Raptor is a whole new animal
Also the Raptor is faster more powerful for hill climbing. when modded and when stock it's a much better drag racer.
I think this is an easy hands down to the raptor.

The Raptor is good.
But with your age, size (I'm guessing on), and experience, the Z400 would be a blast for you as long as you are a careful/safetyconscious rider. You could make that thing pretty fast. I'm gauging that from my buddy who got his son the Z400 (which I thought was to big for him at the time with zero riding experience)
I would honestly start there and then maybe move up to a raptor or one of the 450's in a couple years, when you have a lot more experience riding.
I wouldn't suggest the Raptor, either of the 450's, or the DS650 to a 13 y/o with only 3 years riding experience.
In My Humble Opinion. Take the safe route at our age and work you way up .
Just my thoughts.
Good Luck with whatever you get

if you want power, go with the obvious 660 raptor
the z400 is lighter and easier to meneuver
you have to decide what you want... something good for drags, or something good for handling the dunes
with as much dune-riding as you do, i would recommend either a ds650 or crf450

Dude im 18 years old, i just got a 04 z400 limited edition, its a sweeet ride dude!, believe me ive had about 8 years of riding experience, my bro in law got a raptor and my other bro in law got a vforce, my z isint quite as fast as a raptor but its faster then the v force. i got 68 mph on my Z, my bro's raptor got around 72 mph, so its not that big of a difference. the z has awesome performance as far as smoother shifting then a raptor, lighter then a raptor, more stable then a raptor, LOTs of *****!! but not quiete as much as a raptor. their both really good quads as far as performance, so far i prefer my z over a raptor, but its diferent for every rider, try them both if u can, and decide for yourself. as far as tires, they have the exact same tires.
