Maybe Suzuki builds their 500's motors to different specs than the ones they build for Arctic Cat.

Actually, the Arctic Cat is supposed to have more compression or something like that than the Suzuki version. I have heard or read somewhere that it is a hair more powerful, but I would imagine that this is only on paper and that you could never really tell the diffference when riding them.

I was relating what I'd read in the 2000 Quadrunner brochure. It also says they weigh in at 606lbs. That's what my KQ weighs! Those aluminum wheels sure look nice.

If you not in the mood for a heavy machine then take a look at the Kodiak. Me and a friend both have one and have had no trouble with them at all. We both have pulled good sized loads and it would handle what you are talking about. We ride on the beaches and in the woods and have been in a lot of water and mud also. The machine is fun and has a sporty ride, It has plenty of power and a Hi Lo range for more pulling power if you need it. As far as speed it gets to 45MPH pretty fast and winds up around 55 MPH. Go take a ride on one and see what you think. Good Luck on your choice!------------Kyle Kimball

Z.. It weighs 606 lbs dry, and will pull 904 lbs, but the rack weight ( 66/132 lbs ) is less than its competitors.

Andy.. It's the exact same engine. The Cat has a dry weight of 648 lbs. Towing cap. is 1050 lbs, and rack weight is ( 100/200 lbs). So the AC is probably the better machine for hunting.

r34, It looks like the 500s and the KQ share the same specs for towing and rack capacity as well as weight. I recall in 93 when I bought my KQ it had the highest towing capacity in the 300 class (comparable to larger machines). I have some literature from 97 that states the towing capacity of the Quadrunner250 4WD as a honkin' 900 lbs!

They can all tow more than they are rated for and haul more on the racks than they are rated for as well. Arctic Cat has the highest front rack capacity at 100 lbs. How many of you have ever sat down on your front rack? How much do you weigh? 20 lbs. difference in claimed rack capacity really doesn't ammount to all that much if you think about it. The towing is just a safe figure for a handling, braking, and machine overload issues.

Z... Yea, you are absolutely right. I did'nt notice that the KQ had the same load capacities as the LT-F500. That is suprising because there is a 213cc difference...wow...I guess the larger engine was probably designed to place the machine into the Sport/Utility market, because I know that the selling feature for me, was the exceptionally strong acceleration.

No the Arctic Cat motors come with a Higher compression piston than the Suzuki's. I think the Suzuki has a 8.5:1 ratio while the Cat has 9.5:1 ratio.
