Default Obtaining a title

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I bought an atv off a friend 3 years a go who bought it off someone else 4 years ago and never got a title. I’ve recently sold the atv to someone else, after I sold it they started calling me asking for a title. Is there any way that I can obtain a title to give to them? Or is there anyway they can use my bill of sales to get a title?
thanks

This may vary a little from state to state but:

First off, since you have already sold the quad and all the previous owners (including you) did not have a title, then you are out of the loop - there is no reason for you to do anything. In fact, since you have no legal claim to the ATV anymore, there is nothing you can do. The new owner needs to check with his local courthouse - probably the vehicle registration office. I had to do this for one quad that I own where all I did not even have a bill of sale, just a cancelled check. Turns out I didn't even need the BOS, they just did a VIN# search that showed that the ATV had never been registered.

There was a modest fee but I got my temp. title right then and there.

Yeah, in my state you just have to get a vin tracing off the frame, then you can get a temp reggie if the quad has not been reported stolen or registered. My brother had to do that with a Yamaha he bought a while back. He just said he had owned more than three years, gave them the tracing, and was good to go.
