Best bang for the buck
I'm looking to purchase a new quad within the next month. I've read a lot of articles and forums on YFZ vs 450R vs Z-400, and I know it's Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge. I'm coming off a semi-modified Blaster (I'm only 5' tall), high compression piston, Toomey pipe, work shocks, etc... I originally started on a Warrior, bought my wife the Blaster, and opted to modify and ride the Blaster, for the fun factor. I ride Dumont & Pismo once or twice a year (dune jumping), a lot of desert blasting & hill climbing, not much MX, but what tracks my buddies and I find or make. In close quarters I can hang with my buddies (Raptors, Banshees, Z-400), on open trails and dunes, I get "SMOKED". The Raptor feels real big and tippy, suspension feels mushy. Banshee is out, I want a 4 stroke. I like the Z-400, my buddies got a lot of mod's that probably price it out equal to either 450R or YFZ450. I like the snappines of the Blaster 2 stroke and like to cruise every once and a while, the Blaster doesn't like that. Read all the shootouts and the YFZ450 seems to be the bike, if your an MXer. The Yamaha guys told me that the YFZ450 will be the closest bike out there to my Blaster. Is this true? I've read that 450R is a good trail bike Kind of tippy (like the Raptor) with a light front end, how light is light? I don't want to be sitting on the tank on moderate hill climbs. I don't know anyone that I can ride either 450 bikes. Any insight will help, and NO this isn't the YFZ450 vs 450R, for all I know the DS650 could be the bike for me. I'll be frankful, I guess what I want, is to stomp on my buddies and at the same time be able to take the kids on a trail ride. Hopefully none of them read this.
