Default predator,z400,450r??

I am selling the 300 and buying a new quad since i now have a job and a vehicle.I am either looking at a predator,z400,or the 450r.i am buying one brand new.i think i have enough experience to handle any of them.the kind of riding i will be doing is fast and tight trails and some roads.the group that i ride with there is nothing smaller than a 400ex.any input will be appreciated.

For trail riding I would buy the Z400 because it has reverse but if that dosnt bother you buy the 450r.

You should go and ride em and see what you like. The new Predators have reverse. I have an 03 Pred, that I have over 5000 miles on, and I love it....I wished it had reverse as well, that would make it just about perfect. My son rides a z400, and if power matters to you, my pred blows that thing away...the power difference is pretty substantial with ours...and I run mine stock...his is piped..

I choose the Z for trails, 450R for more open country. My buddy who has a vintage piped 250R, rode with two piped Predators. He said the Predators ate his dust all day! And, Predators get pretty mediocre reviews in the magazines.

...reconranger is always slamming polaris. The predator is a great quad and was rated #1 on trails.

I'll just quote another poster from another thread. Pretty much sums up the whole "what should I get" issue.

I, too, used to have no interest in a Polaris. But in the last three years Polaris has jumped into the sport quad market with real commitment. The 05 Predator is now a Great quad. The Dirt Wheels test riders are not fools, and they say the 05 Predator is number one on the trails. I agree...JMO. See my previous message in this thread.

I currently own a Predator and a Raptor, so I will be glad to give you any detail of comparison you need. I have also ridden my friends' Z400s many times, I have ridden my friends' DS650s many times, I have ridden my friends' YFZ450s many times, and I have ridden my friends' 450Rs many times. This experience is my basis for comparison.
I am an average sized male, 180 lbs. And I like to ride fast, in any conditions. (See my signature info.)

Fit is important! In the old days you could buy either the used 250R or the Banshee if you wanted to go fast. Now days you can actually shop around and find a (new) fast quad that actually fits YOU.

Everyone has different values...some like to ride fast, some like comfort the most, some like tight trails, some like climbs, and some like drags, etc. Try to figure out which quad will fit you and also will excell in the areas you want to ride the most.

The Z400 is underpowered, but if all you want is to ride is tight trails and if you are a light person and if you don't want to drag race, it may be just the quad for you. It is an excellent quad over-all. It just lacks the power I like.

Price....When I am spending 6 grand on a "Toy", I want to be sure to get the one I figure I will be the happiest with, whether it costs $5800 or $6400. So don't base your decision on price unless you are forced to.

Good Luck, Ride Safe, and Have Fun!
