Which quad to buy?
#1
My dads friend is just getting into atv's and is looking at buying one. He likes the Yamaha Raptor 660. But i think it is more than what he is ready for. I said he should either go with a Yamaha Banshee or the Kawasaki kfx400. He is just going to be riding around and having fun.I told him I would let him ride my Mojave to get a feel as to riding an atv. what do u all think would be the best quad for him?

If he wants a 660 fine. But the kfx would probably be a better deal because he probably won't need the long gearing of the raptor. The only thing I think the raptor is good for is wide open areas. The z's power is also more controlable then the raptors but he could get used to it.

I personally don't feel either are good for a newbie. They are both way too quick for a guy who's not been riding at least a couple years IMO.
That's why you see brand new quads for sale with only 5 hours on them. Some clown bought something too fast for him and either got hurt or scared himself enough to realize he wants something a big more lumbering.

Yea ss97, you do have a pretty good point, but I also know people that I let ride my quad get used to it pretty quick. I mean obviously they aren't great but they got the hang of it alot better then I thought they would. But either way its still a coin toss.......

I'm a big believer of people getting started on machines with friendly engines like a z250 or 300ex or even a Warrior/Raptor350.
One must learn to walk before one can try to fly.

Yes also a good point. A raptor 350 would sound like a better bike for him because that power, I know anyone can get used to because stock, you can't really make that thing pull a wheelie if you wanted it to but it still has ok power for the trails and stuff. But they can also be modded to where it can keep up with a z in most conditions with a pipe, jet kit and air filter.
