OK, I've got a couple of questions. First off, what's the difference between the 400EX and the Sportrax 400EX? Second, I noticed that both of these are air-cooled as opposed to water-cooled. Since I live in Las Vegas, would air-cooled cause the bike to overheat when riding up the side of a steep hill in 120 degree weather?

That's a good issue, air cooled vs water cooled! Water cooled is of course better in the hot weather, so you might want to look at something like a Z400.

I too live where it is hot in the summer. What we do is switch mostly to mountain riding in the summer, and then back to desert riding in the cooler months. I can't see myself riding when it is 100+ degrees any more than I can see myself riding when it is -40 degrees. We do sometimes do morning rides out at Rasor Rd. (near Baker Calif.). This time of year it is over 100 every day, but it cools down at night. We start riding at first light, and can ride for 4 or 5 hours before it gets to hot. Then we jump in our air conditioned trucks and get out of there.

correct, just newer year. I swear I read on their website not too long ago there were 2 different 400ex models though. 1 for dunes, 1 for trails. anybody else see this? i think the gearing and suspension was the difference. I know I'm not losing my mind...but it's not on their site now....

ya the 05 new model of the 400ex has a 14 tooth front sprocket with the 450r body on it and the older model has a 13 tooth front sprocket on it its more for woods racing and stuff like that but i like the 14 better for everything!

And i would rather have the water cooled bike
