i was in the market of buying a 450, and i know there not directed towards trail riding, but what quad would be better in the trails between the 450r and the yfz450? or am i just better off getting a 400? i was leaning towards a z400 if i was planning on getting one.

 

You can trail ride the 450s if you want. Several of my friends have Honda 450Rs and they trail ride them almost every weekend.

450r's are good on the trail but if you want reverse a z400 is what you want.
