Need some help choosing
#1
Hi I am looking to buy a sport quad soon and need help choosing which one to go with. I am 15 and 6'0' 150 lbs. This will be my first quad so I do not want to buy something to powerful but I want a quad that I will not grow out of fast. I have been reading and looking at a Z400 and it looks like good all-around sport quad and what i am looking for. I would appreciate any advice that you guys give since you guys have alot more experience with atvs.....this is going to cost me alot of money so I want to get the right quad.
ps. I am mostly going to be trail riding and mudding with my friend..... later I hope to be track riding but i want to get used to the quad first.....want to live long enough to enjoy the quad
Thanks,
Mike

Is the z400 too poweful? would it be ok if i bought a Z and took it easy until i got used to it or is it just too powerful to start with?? would it be better if I got a z250 or raptor 350 instead....money is also a issue i have been saving up for quite a while to get a quad so i want to get the right one.....

i got the raptor 350 last year when it first came out and im 6 2" 180. i got it because i never rode a quad before and didn't want to much power and i am happy with it. it has been very reliable. and is great for trail riding and mud.

The Z will serve you well if you go that route. They have good handling and plenty of power for trailriding. They also hop up pretty well to grow with your abilities. You seem to have the right attitude about getting started, just take it easy and ride within your abilities. Plan on taking a rider safety course ASAP after picking up the quad also.

You might also want to look into a 400ex they are nice reliable quads. My freind has a kfx 400 basicaly the same thing as the z400 and it would be fine for a beginner. Just take it easy for a while until you get used to it.

Do yourself a favor- don't buy one of these things for the resale. I think about the only people that have ever made out as a whole are the guys that bought 250R's back in the day, and sold them 10+ years later. Even ratted out ones used to go for about the same price as new. Of the Z400 vs 350 Raptor vs 400EX though, I would go with the Z as best resale.

The Z is a great all-around machine. It is tame enough for an adult beginner, yet has enough performance that an experienced rider won't get bored. Later when you are more experienced, the engine has lots of hop up potential when you want even more performance. Just take it real easy at first!

I also will be riding on some pretty technical trails too and from what I read the Z needs too be revved kinda like a two stroke which make that type of riding hard..is there a way to tune it down or would a 400ex be better?
