Help! I can't make up my mind! I bought a Recon this summer and was bumped of it several times. I have arthritis and my hubby said the suspension on the Recon was not for me. I sold it, and now I have to decide on the 300EX or the Lakota. Both have great suspension and are sport bikes. We only ride trails, some of them steep and rocky. Only thing is... I hate to shift! I would rather have the automatic clutch, but I need easy steering and good suspension. Are they so comparable that I could get the Lakota and not be sorry? Any input would be appreciated.

Lilgirlblue I whould'nt buy neither, you say you dont like to shift and you ride on trails with mud, rock, and hills.
The polaris trailblazer 250 is perfect for what your going to be using it for. As I said before polaris does'nt have 1/10th of the problems they had 5 years ago. and dont listen to anybody who says the belts slip, thats old news.
Come on lilgirlblue who would know better than a polaris owner.

Thanks for the reply scramdaddy, but my first quad was a polaris trailblazer and I had more problems with the suspension and steering on that one than any other. I spent more time in the trees with my trailblazer than with any other quad I have been on. I like the ease of the auto-tranny, but hate the steering. Thanks anyway.

Sorry to hear about you getting to know the trees better on your polaris.
One of my riding buddys has a 300ex and loves it. Besides the fact of it being hard to get into reverse it's a great machine.
Kawasaki has'nt been having a good track record lately with the recall on all praries cuz of the clutch locking up.
Im a die hard on polaris but I will give the 300ex a lot of credit, I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I have a 300ex and love it. I understand it when you say you would rather have an auto clutch. It can be a pain in the neck at times. If I were you I would definitely check into the '01 250Ex. The only thing is that the new model doesn't come out until January. Can you wait that long?

I have already looked into the 250EX... Its a Recon with new skin. Nothing has changed except the body, which is simular to the 300, and no racks. Everything else is exact. If they would have put the 300 frame and suspension with the Recon engine.... Now that would have been awesome for me. I need that great suspension, or I fall off... ALOT! LOL I was talking to a guy tonight with a 99 300EX that is in new condition... I think I am going to go that-away. But... cause I am a woman, my mind is not yet quite made up!

If anyone is interested. Here is a link to the newsstory on the new Honda 250EX. Not a bad quad if you can take the teeth shattering suspension. Other than that, they should handle pretty good.http://media.rivals.com/media/jpg/2000091400961318.jpg

I have a '97 Lakota and would recomend it to anyone looking for anything other than a full on sport bike or an all out utility quad. The suspension can be set plush for your liking and the steering is simple. Mine has been ridden hard and has held up better than expected. If your not wanting a manual clutch - which I couldn't see why with arthritis - then I would absolutely get a Lakota.

lilgirlblue,
Talk to my friend, trx300EXR. He has owned both the Lakota and the 300EX. Now he races on a bigger and much faster thing (250R). Anyways, he can surely help you since he has had experience with both. Good luck.
