Default Yamaha big bear or Suzuki eiger

My deals for the other atvs couldn't come through I asked the guy what the OTD the price was he gave me one figure and them when I talked to him next week he gave me another figure with $1200.00 extra and told me I would have to pay another $700.0 in sales tax when I got back to Virginia because I was financing it here. So I am deciding on the atvs I had thought about before the 2006 yamaha big bear 400 4x4 or the 2006 Suzuki eiger 4x4 both would be the 5 speeds. I heard bad things about the belts slipping and stuff like that. What do you all think which would you all choose? I am going to use it for mudding and riding though wet fields ditches and things. My local dealer has offered me a new 06 with a winch OTD for $5500. Is that a good deal? I am getting a 2000 pound warn on it when I choose either one. I appericate any help. Thanks

I have the eiger and love it. I paid 5200 for mine and then by the time I put the winch on it was about the same price. I have not ridden the big bear snd dont know much about it. One of the big things that I like about the eiger it that it is prewired for most everything, horn, winch, back up lights and more that I have not found yet. I would say that you should get metal skid plates for what ever you choose. Hope this helps.

look around at non-current eigers, primarily on the internet[ebay] cause thats the easiest place to shop, picked up a new 05 manual for well under 4k with no sales tax or extra fees......

I have been looking on their I don't want to have to drive over 300 miles though to get one. I also am getting a lone on the atv so I am trying to make it easier on everone and get on with in the same state. I don't know if I would have to pay sales tax if I bought it in one state then registered it in another? The one dealer I talked to said that I would. So I really don't want to pay an extra $700.00 out of pocket on that.

im in chicago and i bought the suzuki from a dealer west of st louis, so i did have to drive to pick it up, about 325 from here[but the savings on the quad more than compensated for the inconvience and gas of the trip, including purchase of trailer[actual price was $3750 out the door, this was a "best offer" deal on ebay, and it was a lowball on my part, really didnt expect to win] i would have to pay tax in illinois if i were to register it [for title ] which i really dont need for resale for example, you would have your certificate of origin on the purchase, all you need to show legal ownership, but i wont be doing that because we ride on private land here[mostly deer hunting in galena area] , and in UP michigan where theyre not so **** about offroading [yet!],mostly [95%] old logging trails, and on private up in same area.....

Dear Mr. GmManDan,, I was making the same choice you was, I purchaced the 06 Eiger 5 speed for $4399, the Yamaha Big Bear came with a free winch for $5149. The reason I purchaced the Eiger because it was less complicated to get into reverse and it had a low range, plus a cheaper price. Im in total agreement with you about the 5 speed without the belt drive, in the past I have been on some nasty trails and seen the belt smokers smoke their belts, it makes a big cloud of rubber smelling smoke, and that convinced me to never purchace any belt drive atv. Many Dealers tell me the newer belt drives will not smoke the belts, but I have seen the newer ones stranded, and not making steep hill climbs. Im planning on using my Eiger to plow snow and with the low range, that Yamaha doesn't have, I know it will push snow no problem. Some people say on my 5 speed im more prone to smoke the clutch and that would be more expensive to replace than a drive belt, but Im using Amsoil Synthetic Motorcycle Oil 10W40 and that oil will give me "0" clutch slippage. What people don't understand some clutch slippage is normal in all ATV's and Motorcycles, because of the oil deposits that form on the clutch fiber discs, that inturn causes your clutch to wear, but when you have "0" slippage the fiber discs won't wear out, they will last forever, its proven by Amsoil after you switch to Amsoil you have between 5 to 20mph higher top speed cause of NO clutch slippage. After you have 100 miles on ur new atv switch to Amsoil, and you will see and feel a difference, easier shifting, higher top speed, cooler running engine, plus its synethetic, it stays the same thickness and thinness no matter what temperature.

all clutchs slip to some degree at certain points in their operation, otherwise they could not function as such., any proper oil, doesnt have to be an amsoil product will give you proper service life providing you dont abuse the machine., also nothing wrong with a belt[cvt] drive [i have both,05 eiger manual and 05 ac tbx 400 belt., both work properly if used as intended. ill wager 95% of all belt failures[current designs] can be traced to an idiot at the controls..............

The yamaha big bear is not belt drive....It has an ultra low first gear and is bullet proof engine to match.

I will let you know which one I get and how i like it I am leaning towards the big bear because I am getting better deals locally and the suzuki dealer is a longer drive and not willing to budge on prices. I am going to buy this apr 15 more or less unless something else comes up.
