Default KFX400, 400ex, or 660 Rap?

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but I can't seem to find anything. I've been looking at these three quads, and have found a few in the 3200 to 2800 range. The kfx is the cheapest at 2800, but the others are obo. I have ridden both the raptor and 400 and liked both very much. I like the look of the kfx, but know nothing of their reliability, or how reliable the raptor is for that matter. Reverse doesnt matter to me, and I will be doing mostly trail/open fields, maybe some short tracks.

I guess my biggest question is which one will give me the least trouble, and not need to be rebuilt often.

I like the raptor, but have heard of some problems w/ the starter, and also the timing chain coming loose?

I realize that's a lot of questions, but theres about 8 total i'm looking at and want to pick a good one, lol.

Thanks, Will

Default KFX400, 400ex, or 660 Rap?

I dont know a whole lot about the kfx400 either but i rode one at haspen and liked it. I Think out of the three I would either go with the 400ex or the raptor. The only thing about the raptor is that I have heard some horror stories about like the oil plug would strip ou the pan, and for some reason the starters on the raptor goes out alot from my experiences. I havent heard anything bad about the 400ex I loved the one i rode it was sweet i was holding on for dear life. I also rode a raptor and it would not keep the front wheels on the ground but thats the way I like it. But I was also riding hills with it and it seemed like it would over heat or something because it would stall all the time on the hills and I would have a hel of a time getting it to start again. hope my $.02 helps.

oh and by the way I didnt read where you put that the starters go out so i guess it is a big problem. BUT maybe you can find one with a starter out and get it dirt cheep. WHO KNOWS!

Thanks for the answers. I'm like you, I like the ones that are easy to wheelie around on, lol. I like the looks of the 400ex and it's reliability, so unless i find a raptor at the same price w/ a new starter I think I'll go with the EX.

Thanks, Will

I find the Raptor to be narrow, tall, and a little tippy. If I owned one, I would have to spend $$$ on a wider axle, a-arms, and that would require shocks, and more $$$......so it just wouldn't be worth it when there are so many other choices out there. I do like the power of the motor tough!

I love the 400EX! It isn't the most powerful machine out there, but all the power is useable and goes straight to the ground. I prefer it for technical trail riding, because its motor will lug down, and doesn't mind being ridden slowly.

The Z400 (same thing as the kfx) likes to rev and doesn't like to be lugged, so I pick it for rides in more open country.

Both the EX and Z are high quality, highly reliable machines. Both have excellent handling. The Z is faster stock, and has more hop up potential when you want more power.

So the kfx is a reliable machine?

One of the main reasons I really wasn't looking at them was I could find nothing on how reliable they were, or if parts were as cheap as the EX.

Not being able to lug one down real low is fine. Our fields take up more than our woods, and the woods isn't a real tight area.

Well, maybe I'll go look as this kfx as it's the cheapest of the bunch now that I know i can depend on it and not have to be replacing and rebuilding all the time.

I've heard they do have a weaker frame though? Or is that more for when you run tracks all the time?

Thanks a lot, Will

if it was my choice i would go with the kfx. it can take a beating in the trails, has more aftermarket parts then the EX, and compared to the raptor (2001) has much more reliability. FYI, if its a 01 raptor, your gonna be lookin at a new tranny at 150 hours on it, the F*cked up on that thing bad. Another reason i say KFX is cause they look orgasmic .
