About the closest thing I know of is the Suzuki Eiger 400. Pretty much all the bigger brand 400+cc machines are over 5K, but you can always find a deal if you look long enough.

I think you can also get an Arctic Cat 400 for around that price, which is an excellent quad, with a well liked 4x4 system

The local Suzuki Dealer is selling new 2006 Eigers for $4399 and Vinsons for $4799, and you can choose from either the shift or fully automatic. The 500cc Vinson is just as fast and powerful as any 650-700cc machine, plus They both have limited slip front differencials that works just as good as any diff lock, but with a diff lock you can't steer it, with a limited slip diff you can steer normally, so a limited slip diff is better than any diff lock. Remember, Suzuki was the first in 4 wheel atvs, they are first ones, Suzuki invented the quad, everybody else copied from Suzuki. When you own a Suzuki you will get respect from other atv riders cause you own a Suzuki.

A locker is great, if you can engage and disengage when needed. A limited slip front is better for steering and will do for most riding, until it truly gets bad. As far as the original post, the Eiger is going to be nearest to what you described. It is a very good machine, 376cc motor is stout, the auto trans is very reliable, nice simple features, not alot of frills and lace - work horse atv. You can check out the specs and features at Suzuki.com. Most everyone likes a certain brand and stays with it. Honda makes good ATVs but there mid to low range CC models have not kept up with the competition. Suzuki has listened to what riders want and built wheelers that show it, King Quad, Vinson, Eiger, Ozark, R450, etc. Do your self a favor, test ride a couple and get what is comfortable and makes you happy.

This simply isn't true. The Outlander 500 vtwin, BF 650 vtwin, Prarie v-twin etc.
