Default Is there one?

My friend is looking to buy a ATV, he has no brand loyalty, so whoever makes it is open.
Minimum 250 cc
Ideally 300-500cc
Use: Trail riding, mud, water (want to put small, cheap winch on)
Acceleration: Fast
Clutch: Semi-Auto
Type: SPORT

He is looking to buy the above used if at all possible and around 2 grand. Does any quad meet the above? With our without the price. I kind of think he is torn between a sport and ute, so I suggested the wolverine , but he wants to shift..

So if you got it, lets hear it

By "semi-auto" clutch, I assume you mean an autoclutch. These are only found on the Honda and Suzuki 250's (if you are sticking to sport quads). Everything bigger has a full manual hand clutch. Kind of limits things, huh.........

yes you are right, he wants to shift , but have no clutch lever. I'll show him the honda and suzuki 250's and see what he thinks. I personally think for what he wants he should get a utility that can shift, like a big bear or eiger etc.

Tell him to get over it and just learn to use a full manual hand clutch. That alone will open up a huge number of sport quads to choose from. A used Honda 400EX maybe?

But if you are into mud and such, maybe a used Honda Rancher? If you can find a Wolverine (the old one, not the new one), that might be just perfect.........

I second the 400. You can learn how to use the clutch to take off and stop in about 30 minutes. You only really need it for those two tasks anyway.

If he wants auto-clutch he has VERY limited choices. Especially if he wants a sport? If he wants a decent sport quad he needs to deal with using a clutch, its not hard. If he wants an auto-clutch, and can deal with a utility, I can think of only one that would be at least reasonably sporty, and thats the manual Vinson 500 4x4. Pretty sporty and fast for a little sport/utility quad. 5speed auto-clutch, good power for a 500cc. But for $2000 he isn't gonna find much of anything decent, even used.

If he still really wants a sport only bike, and still absolutely doesn't want to learn to use a clutch...then look into Rekluse. www.rekluse.com

They make auto-clutch kits for some sport quads that convert them from full manual to semi manual.

Hope he finds something, if he wants to play in mud, and put a winch on it, he will probably have more fun on a Vinson...maybe not.

As I recall the Rekluse clutch is fairly expensive???? If he only has $2,000 for the quad, he doesn't have money to be replacing the clutch.

I would agree with all you guys said, he is telling me he can use a clutch but would rather not have one...after all that was said here, I think he may be looking at a utility, it is more practical for what he wants to do and where he lives. Thanks for all the replies.
