Yeah I don't like fully automatics myself, but for someone who just wants to enjoy the ride, there definately is a place for them.

Yes I am pretty sure I am looking for a 2wd sport quad. Well none of my friends have sport quads. They have a 220 Bayou and another friend has a 700 King quad. However, when we were quadin last weekend I went every where they did and had no problems. If anything I had more fun since I could jump the jumps better. I do like the idea of having a fully auto though. Well, I don't think of myself as small or large person. , I am kinda in the middle. I am 5'6 1/2 and I weigh between 145 lbs. and 150 lbs. I am always tring to lose more weight so I am kinda hoping this new sport might help with that. I appreciate all your help I am going to look into the 300. Can you adjust the suspension on the 300? Do you happen to know where I could get one customized? If I decide to go with the fully manual I would want a twist grip. I hate that stupid little thumb throttle. Also just because I am crazy. I would want my to have custom colors ect.
I would advise seriously against a twist throttle on a quad ..... I know the thumb throttle is annoying now, but you are a newbie and you will get used to it, and eventually appreciate it.....

A twist on a quad, is only really workable for specific situations. One is motocross racing, another is drag racing or flat-track racing. You could probably get away with it for full time dune riding too, but beyond that they suck for average trail riding....

There is too much body English while riding an ATV compared to a motorcycle. On an ATV, the machine does not lean on the turns, the rider does. This creates a lot of awkward positions where a twist throttle is sketchy. Also it is much tougher to be delicate with a twist throttle when a 350-plus pound machine is trying to pull the bars out of your hands....

I have seen a lot of people switch to twist on the modern machines, only to switch right back after an incident..... last year my father switched his KFX700 over to twist because he was certain it would be better. After a crash in which his thigh literally broke the throttle tube on impact, his thumb was back on and he reluctantly admitted it was a mistake. I have seen this similar scenario played over again with varying results so many times in recent years it is amazing....

Give yourself some time to get used to a thumb throttle. There is a reason that virtually every pro ATV racer is now using a thumb, when 10 years ago it was just the opposite...... I think the twist lent itself better to the 2-stroke racing machines of the past....

A full auto is a good choice if that what you want. Don't be confused or feel pressed to try a manual. I will always ride an auto, because in my opinion, they perform better at the things I do than a manual would. And yes, I had a manual, so i have owned one. I will never look back

Really?

What do you feel autos do better?

I've always hated the fact that there are times when the power you want, is just not there because the CVT is spooling up at the moment....

A perfect example is this onetime I was on my father's Scrambler years ago, booking down a trail at about 35-40mph.... All of a sudden I noticed a trench that went right across the trail, about a foot deep. It was caused by some water run-out and was not there the last time I rode that trail... But I hit the gas to lighten the front end and I was unable to get the power to the ground in time. There seems to be a slight delay with CVTs that is just not there with a manual.....

With a manual you can get into a gear and ride in the meat of the powerband, so if you need to get over something in a pinch a quick punch of the gas will give you instant results....... the CVTs, no matter the power seem to all that that slight delay.....

My father loves them too, he will only ride autos. He just does not want to be bothered shifting while on a quad......... for me shifting is part of the fun ....

Kymco makes a 300 full auto sport. Mongoose 300, as well as the 250. Went to a Yamaha dealer this past weekend to get look at one for the wife. If course they were sold out. The salesman has been impressed with the quality, and the the warranty.

Just a note, but stay away from the Can-am ds250. Bought one, and while it is mechanically sound, it has no real power, and no upgrades. The Kymco has quite a few.

Good luck with your choices, and welcome to the forums.

As for the Wolverine that has been suggested, it weighs 150 pounds more than your little 250EX. Imagine taking 150 pounds of weights and strapping them to your 250EX.....now how pleasent do you think riding that would be????

On the other hand, most 4X4's weigh 100-200 pounds more than the Wolverine, so if you are absolutely forced to ride a 4wd, it might not be that bad a choice.

Everything, In my opinion as stated. I have no problem lightening up my front end at any speed. And when riding slow technical rocks, or trails, i'm ALWAYS in the right gear. I guess its all preference, as i said, i feel it does everything better for me.
