Honda 400 ex
#1
Hi this is my first post.
I live in sunny South Africa in a place called midrand between JHB and Pretoria hence Midrand were at 5000 feet above the wet stuff ? 30% less power
Ok so 4 months ago I went on an outride in the Kruger national park region? not fast on a hired 4x4 auto box loved it.
Did another out ride Sunday about 10 miles on same sort of bike same again loved it.
Got to get one of these things heard Good review on the 300 ex took a test felt so refined to the hired quads, it was at this point I spied the 400 ex and 450.
I know I want to ride into the mountains not ripe neck speed but I liked the low down torque the 400 had over the 300 don?t forget the wet stuff a long way away..
Took a 350 raptor on a little squirt today felt good but not as good as the 400
I am 5.11 and 208 got to stop the snacking any advise guys and girls

Both the 300EX and 400EX are great trail quads. They have torquey low end power, which gives them a huge advantage over most other machines which are all rev (the 450's for example). The 300 is to small for you though, so the 400 is the better choice here.
In the 400 class, there is also the Z400. It is more revy than the EX, but less revy than the 450's, so it fits kind of in between. Good all-around machine.
The 450's like to rev, and that makes them less well adapted to trail riding. You have to do a lot of clutch work on a tight trail, and that just gets old real fast......
For me, I pick the 450R for fast flying in the wide open desert. For trails that are semi-technical, nothing beats the torque and low end power of the 400EX. And when it gets really nasty, a 4X4 Rancher 420....
As for the Z400, I found that it fell between the 450 and EX, so it did many things pretty well but didn't really excell at any one thing....so I found I wasn't often riding it and I got rid of it......
I say stay away from the Raptor 350, with its ancient low tech engine.

I think i have made my mind up and its got to be the 400 I have heard comments that the engine is rather an old design on the Honda as well.
Thanks for the advise reconranger.
I know im going to need training and to take it easy i heard that its a great way of getting into shape if you ride enough also im going to be in lots of pain from muscle groups lol
