Default Buying a new Quad, 300cc - 400cc

Alright im doing a little work on my Raptor 80 and then selling it and moving up to a bigger quad. I am 14 years old, about 5'4' and about 115 Ibs. I have had a Raptor 80 since i was 8 years old. I am looking into these three quads and would like your advice:

2007 Honda TRX300EX

2007 Yamaha Raptor 350

2007 Honda TRX400EX

Thank you,

I would say the z400. Its the fastest out of the others and just as reliable as the Honda 400ex which is bulletproof!

If there is a good possibility of upgrading again in a few years, you might want to try the 300EX. Maybe even save some $$ and buy a clean used one. Otherwise either 400 is all you need for pretty much ever. The Z will probably outrun Bigfoot the best, should he/she ever get agitated with ya'!

Just wondering, what are the top speeds of these quads, and which of them is the safest (lightweight, hard to flip, brakes, etc)?

Continue,
Thank you!!!

EDIT: I am thinking of buying the 400EX. What do you guys think about it?

Default Buying a new Quad, 300cc - 400cc

Alright guys im not neccessarily looking for the fastest quad. I want something that isn't too powerful for me but i want it to have a little more power so when i am older im not wanting more power. Im not going to get the Suzuki Z400, too much for me ($ and power). Im looking at the 07 raptor 350, 07 honda TRX400EX and the 07 honda TRX300EX. What should i get? Why?

Please help, Thank you!

EDIT: Also here is the website to the dealer i will be buying from:

http://www.landairvt.com/default.asp

and no they don't have yamaha there but they will order the 07 350 for me.

Bonus: My sisters boyfriend who helps me with working on my ATVs and all that knows a guy there and could possibly have that guy get my ATV a couple 100 bucks cheaper!

Z400 is very mellow stock... considering your 115 pounds... you will get bored with the 300EX...

400EX is nice... but unless you can get new, the older ones don't have reverse...

the raptor is a nice quad.... but its very heavy... and not much power at all...

You should buy a 400. just take it easy till you get the hang of the power... The quad will only go as fast as YOU want it too! just remember that.

Good luck!

Fred

You can do a search and find plenty on information regarding 400ex vs. z400 and it comes down to the kind of riding you will be doing, tight trails, trails and a track here and there, I would say given your circumstances the 400ex is perfect. It has great low and mid range, easy to learn wheelies and jump, perhaps only marginally easier than another quad in its class IMO (I couldn't personally tell the difference), They have all kinds of easy mods available and extremely reliable. I've riden both but for myself I just picked up a DVX400 (Arctic Cat's version of a z400) because I want the performance of liquid cooled and the power for the dunes... Whatever you do I agree with the other posters, stick with a 400 or you will run out of quad...

Im sure you can still have plenty of fun with a 300. But anyways, price is an issue aswell.

The 07' Honda TRX400EX has reverse, the other years don't. For me, Reverse is an absolute MUST HAVE. It has enough power to keep me satisfied for quite a long time. But the price is pushing it.

The 07' Yamaha Raptor 350 is a good size for me (well, right now) it seems as if it has quite a good amount of power for me for a while. I like Yamaha, i own a raptor right now but thats the 80cc one. What i find as a downfall is that i've heard that its reverse is vary difficult and shifting gears isn't too good either when in tight trails and/or such. Good price, good power, but reverse and possibly shifting may be a problem.

The 07' Honda TRX300EX Good amount of power for me. going from an 80cc to a 300cc is a big jump, and im practically a novice rider but what about when im older? The price is okay, it has reverse, its a honda (do i have to say more?) and its all good. But, only 300cc, what kind of upgrades are out there for this? Or maybe me and my sisters boyfriend who goes to a mechanical college right now can hook up a turbocharger or something like that.

Overall, im 14. They won't let me test drive. There 07 honda 400 is expensive, and the older versions don't have reverse. The raptor 350 is difficult to shift into reverse and the shifting gears supposedly isn't too good either. The 07 honda 300 has enough power for me (for now) doesn't have a big price to me, all around good, except that it may be a little short on power for me.

So, really im still stuck. For now i would just like to see what some owners of any of these three quads on the forum have to say about them. Any other help is welcome

Thank you,
