'05 400ex...worth it?
#1
alright, ive been planning on buying a friend of mines '05 400ex. today i went to check it out and first thing i noticed was the rear brake rotor/rotor hub were broken/missing. after looking it over heres what else i found. the front headlight lens is cracked, but still all there. there is a small crack in one of the nerf bars. and one of his friends crashed it into a fence and broke the throttle(where the cable goes into the box) so he JBed it. the quad has new sprockets/chain, an almost new HMF slip-on and K&n airfilter w/ pre filter. the nerfs, front bumper, a-arm skidplates, engine skidplate, he said hes got the swingarm skid also but its beat up. Its got a white bros and renthal bars too. rev box. i was sort of dissapointed when i saw all this, but it fired right up and like all hondas was cold- blooded lol. i rode it around a little bit, and everything work perfectly, no rattles or anything except the plastic key-holder would move back and forth. he said that there was a bolt that came up from the old bars to secure that down, but there wasnt one on the aftermarket bars. the tires are worn but usable. we talked a little bit and he said he'd take $2700. is it worth it? i know the honda 400's are supposed to be pretty much indestructable..im seriously considering this quad and just wanna know if you guys think it'll let me down..i dont wanna have to work on something all the time..and id really like reverse but if it comes down to it theres a little bit older ones around in the same price range. thanks for any input you guys have.
also: it hasnt been jetted, but it seemed to run fine? maybe its just me..being the first time ive ridden a 400? it seemed responsive with no faltering or anything when i got on the gas.
