Default which one to get

I am thinking of getting a new 4-wheeler. I was thinking of getting a polaris. I would like a shaftdrive 4-wheeler something between 300-500cc and maybe liquid cooled and maybe 4x4. I will used this for work and play. My wife and kids when they get bigger will ride it.
Can anyone point me in a directions. What model would be the best for probably the lowest price with the best durability and reliability. I would plain on have it for years.
I was told that some manufactures have perty good rebates now. Any advice on rebates?
I am kindof new to atv. I had a honda trx 200 several year ago. It was a good machine.
thanks for all your help

I highly recommend the Honda Rancher 420. It is water cooled and fuel injected. Fast and rips right off the bottom. Trouble free time tested manual transmission (I do not recommend the ES option however), great handling machine (stable with a low center of gravity!), good for light to medium work, and an aboslutely superb trail quad! Absolutely the best value for your $$$ of any machine out there!

I also have an old Rancher 350 that has seen thousands of miles and has not had a single problem! Ranchers are dead solid reliable. If you can find a leftover Rancher 350, you should be able to get it at a huge discount....

I second the motion by reconranger. You say you want a 4wd machine "for work and play"; and it just so happens the title of my page here is "Rancher TRX420FM for Work and Play". I use it for winching and hauling wood on a trailer as seen in my photos here, and I couldn't ask for a better trail rider. I am one happy customer.

Is the honda rancher a fulltime 4x4?
When did it frist come out with fuel injection?
How long has honda been making the rancher?
Dose it have hi/low range?
Is the ground clearence good?
How about the front and rear rack weight?
If I get a used one are parts expensive?
How much cheaper is it compaired to the polaris?
Did I remember right it is shaft drive?
You say it is snappy. Is it a better runer than the others?
thanks for all the help

Is the honda rancher a fulltime 4x4? No, selectable 2wd/4wd (the old 350 was full time, but a Warn 424 fixes that nicely!)

When did it frist come out with fuel injection? Last year.

How long has honda been making the rancher? The 350 since 00, the 420 since 07.

Dose it have hi/low range? Doesn't need it seeing it has an super low 1st gear.

Is the ground clearence good? This is a trail quad, not a rock crawler or monster mud bogger. If you need to do those things, then get something else! (Just for the record, I rock crawl mine all the time, and run circles aroung monster huge top heavy and tippy IRS machines!)

How about the front and rear rack weight? 66 front/133 rear and tow is 850. Honda is always conservative with its weight numbers!

If I get a used one are parts expensive? Honestly...I have never needed to purchase anything but oil filters!

How much cheaper is it compaired to the polaris? You'll have to look that one up yourself.

Did I remember right it is shaft drive? Yup.

You say it is snappy. Is it a better runer than the others? The fuel injection lets it rip right off the bottom. No hesitation at all!

If you are looking at a used one, it would probably be the older 350. It is air cooled and not fuel injected. Has full time 4wd, but a Warn 424 fixes that. Mine is an 00 with thousands of miles on it! Never one single problem of any kind!

They have a sweet mechanical torque sensing front differential as well.

Most people don't know this, but the Rancher is the world's best selling quad of all time Why is it the best seller??? It is exactly what most folks need: Just a sweet handling trail machine that isn't to big, yet it is big enough to get the job done.......

Is the Warn 424 had to install? Is it expensive?
I know it is very hard to say but what is an older rancher in good condition worth??? The new 420 sound very cool but will probably be out of my budget.
thanks for the help
