Default Choosing a 400 sport

Which 400cc sport quad has power most comparable to a 450 with the trail abilities of a big bore??

the z400,400ex,etc make very nice trail quads. a lot of aftermaket stuff for them also. you might be able to mod the 400s to about 450 stock level. might be able to get the 450's on the tight stuff.just as soon it opens up some the 450's will leave you sitting wondering what happened

Default Choosing a 400 sport

The 400EX engine will lug down, and is more torquey on the bottom end. I can put mine in 1st gear and just idle through nasty technical sections. So, the 400EX is my woods trail quad. The only better trail machine is the 300EX.

I use to have a Z400. They like to rev more than the EX (but not as much as a 450!), so they aren't as good as the EX for tight trails (lots of clutch slipping required). The Z certainly has more top end than the EX, and that engine has lots of hop up potential.

I think of the Z as falling somewhere between the EX and the 450.....
