Default What to do?

Hi guys, just a quick question on what to purchase for my self. I grew up driving snowmobiles, dirtbikes, and two 4 wheelers(Grizzy/Blaster). A few years ago my father sold the dirtbikes and Grizzly to purchase a 2004 Rhino. Since then I stopped riding, due to the rhino not being much fun on the track, and yes I tried and a few looked at me like I was nuts. Just recently I took a quick spin up on the trails, and I missed how much fun it was(got free doors on the rhino hehe). Now that I am 20, own and make payments on a car, I am looking to purchase a new atv my self. Up where I live there are grass trails, a local track down my road, and many sand dunes to ride on. I am looking at the Raptor 350 or 700r to purchase next spring after the sled season is over. Both these bikes seem like versatile machines for rough trails, then ripping it up on the dunes. One question I ask is do you think the Raptor 700r is to much for me? I wouldn't like to spend 5 grand on the 350, and have it to small for me in matter of weeks. I'm tempted to test both these machines, but I don't know how a dealer will like a 20 year old male asking to test them. Thanks for reading my long post, and I appreciate your input.

You stuck on Yamaha???? Why just these two choices, when all the manufacturers have lots of great quads these days???

The 350 won't be the hot machine on the track, or in the dunes. It's a warmed over Warrior, which was never that great a machine. I personally don't like the ergonomics of the 700. It has massive torque, but all that power is just wasted on a trail. I wouldn't pick it for the track myself.

The 400's (Honda and Suzuki) are excellent machines, and all the 450's are a big step up from that. Get a Yamaha 450 is you are stuck on Yam......

i have the raptor 700r and love it. i dont think it will be to much quad for you. the 400s are nice but get smoked by the 700 and the 450s are just not that great on the trail. as a madder of fact i think the 450 will be harder to handle than the 700 because they love to rev and move through gear more like a 2 stroke.

Always chose Yamaha due to dealer being closer, and the Honda dealer isn't very reputable up here. But a new Suzuki dealer opened up, I'll take a look there. Thanks for the info on the 450s, shifting threw a lot of gears on some trails wouldn't be so much fun. But thanks for the input guys. Time to wait til spring now..if I can make it

If you are doing a lot of tight technical trail riding, then the 450's aren't the hot ticket (to much clutch work). If the trails are more open and fast, then it's ok.
