Wow, looks nice. That guy could have got SO much more if he parted it out instead though. Kinda foolish.

I'm not sure exactly what piston is in that thing, but you might want to ask him what compression it is, and what kind of fuel it runs on. If the compression is high enough, which it often is in a race bike like that, you have to run race fuel or a mix of race fuel and pump gas to keep the engine running right and not blowing itself up. With race fuel rising above $5 now, and the limited places you can purchase it, that's something to take into consideration.

Ahhh good call recon. something i hadnt even remotely thought of. that would be a very large negative to the bike. thanks for bringing that up. it never crossed my mind to think "Hmm race bike needs race fuel." and i think part of the reason he isnt concerned about the $ is he obviously has a brand new bmw roadster, and a vette, and a dirtbike. (see the backround in the pictures? i notice things) and the shop i called to confrim the work said the guy also had 2 banshee's in the shop atm.. so im guessing he isnt really worried about the cash he is loosing. and from what i gathered from the shop, he doesnt even race them!! hmm might have to look into a different 400ex now, theres another for sale closer thats pretty much stock that is a thousand dollars less, so it might be the better deal after all. =D thanks a TON!

I tell you what i'd do. I'd buy that particular 400ex either way, it'd be hard to lose with a deal like that, that's a very nice machine. And if it does in fact need race fuel, all it would take to get it back on pump gas would be to throw in a piston with lower compression.

I think if you let a deal like that slip through your fingers you'll be kicking yourself in the *** for it later. A piston doesn't cost much at all, you'd spend more than that just to put a slip-on exhaust on one.

Plus on top of that, you have so much aftermarket stuff on that 400ex that when you go to sell it you could make a ton more money than you bought it for if you parted it out.

hmm thanks for the advice. and i truely believe that it has only 2 hours on it since the work has been done on it, the shop confirmed it just got out of thier hands about a month ago. and with the weather having been like it has around here. 2 hours seems very reasonable. got any suggestions on pistons if it is infact a race fuel compression?
