Polaris magnum 325 2000 4x4 or moto4 1987

Hi,
My dad (72yo) is considering buying that small used atv. It is almost new, only 300 km on it (200 milles). He would be using this machine 1 or 2 weeks a year for hunting. It has been sitting in a garage for the last 7 years. (owner has 2 identical one). Asking price is 3000$. I can also buy a yamaha 2x4 moto4 1987 for 1000$. very little used as well. . Anything i should check since the atv has not been used (like stuck-varnish in carburator?) Any comments on those Atv would be welcome.

Not sure what your budget will allow for but I wouldn't like my choices too much. It depends, though, what type of riding you will be doing. If you just plan to ride around in the woods in the backyard, either would probably be fine. If you plan to go on long rides deep into the mountains/woods, I'd save for something a little better. You can buy a brand spanking new Honda Rancher 420 4x4 for around $5399. If you wait for the year-end deals, you could probably pick it up for considerably less and have a much better quad than the ones you listed.
The Polaris 325 isn't available anymore if that tells you something. It had a very short lifespan (time on the market). $1000 sounds too expensive for a quad built in 1987 and is only 2x4. I'm sure the suspension is way outdated as well.
Anyway, that's just my opinion and I'm sure many more will follow. Good luck with your decision.

Quads that sit around develop problems. You mentioned the carb issue, and other things happen like the oil goes acidic, etc. Remember, someone who doesn't even ride their machine, isn't going to be out in the garage doing maintenance on it either! Doesn't sound like these are great deals anyway.
If he wants a small inexpensive 2wd machine for hunting, look for a Honda Recon. If he wants to go a little bigger, maybe a Honda Rancher 350 2wd or 4wd.
