yamaha 660 raptor
#1
Hey, im looking for my first atv and at first was looking at the mic quads because they're cheap and im on a budget but after reading all the negatives about them i decided to look into used name brands and surprisingly came across a few in my budget! There is one that i have a question about though. I found a 2001 yamaha raptor 660 for $2000. The guy says it runs good but bogs down in full throttle because the carb needs to be cleaned. I just dont want to buy something that is a fixer upper, so is this a good deal and do yall think that the carb is the reason for the bog. thanks
p.s. Since this is my first atv, i was wondering if a 660 might be to big. How is the handling and is it to weelie happy because of the power? I am a big guy, 205lbs 6'0" so the size doesnt matter but its the power, i just dont want to crash, lol

I have narrowed it down to 2 quads. One is the 01 yamaha 660 raptor and the other is a 05 honda trx 450r. which one would be best for my first atv? i will probably be riding it hard on some trails and might do some small jumps. Thanks

Raptor is a trail quad, 450R is a race oriented bike. The 450R will be much better for jumping, but worse for trail riding. The Raptor should be able to handle some jumps tho, and the 450R can handle trails.
2001 Raptor 660's had transmission problems, not all of them of course, not sure just how widespread, just something to consider. They were also considered wheelie machines, short wheelbase and loads of torque. Also tall and narrow, meant a bit tippier than other quads during cornering.
Both quads would be a bit much for a beginner, however you are a bigger guy, and some ppl can handle these quads no problem as a beginner. It is really up to you, the 450R is newer so that would help, but they are different machines for different purposes. Try to test ride both of them first, to get an idea of power, handling, and prefference.
I would personally try to look for a newer Raptor 700, much more refined machine compared to the 660. But either machine you mentioned should serve you well, its really up to which one you feel better on and like better.

ok thanks, i think ill look into the 450 quads, i like to go fast and like to jump; i always jump my gokart when i take it out lol.
p.s. the guy says he has no title for it, should i be alarmed? or if i get him to just sign a piece of paper stating that i payed him in full for the quad so if he tried n e thing i'll have some proof. thanks again

Don't buy anything without a title. Would you buy a car or motorcycle without one? It could be stolen. If it is and you're caught with a stolen vehicle you could get it conficated and go to jail. Why take that kind of chance?
