Default ltz400 or 400ex

I am looking to buy a used z400 or a 400ex and I don't know which one to buy. I am really leaning towards the z400. I am planning on selling my 250ex and using that money and some extra to buy one. I need one with reverse and would like for it to be a 05 or newer. I will be doing mainly trail riding, and I might get into racing. I plan on adding alot of aftermarket parts on to it also. which one do you thick I should buy ? which one is better in the long run ?

By the way. anyone have a z400 or 400ex 05 or newer that they are wanting to sell ? Let me no I might be interested. I live in northeastern Indiana.

If you plan on doing any racing go with the z400..... better suspension and more power stock, and a lot more potential....... and they have an excellent record of reliability even if it has not reached 400ex status in that respect.....you cannot go wrong with either choice but you generally get more bang for the buck on the z400....

The beauty of the 400EX is that its engine will lug down. I can put mine in 1st gear, and idle through the technical sections. That makes it perfect for slower/tighter trails. Its top speed is no slouch, but it's not as fast as the Z.

The Z likes to rev (but not however as much as a 450 for example), so it like to run on faster more open trails and in wide open country. If the trail is really technical, it requires some obnoxious clutch slipping.....
