Default ATV for my 8yr old

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to buy an ATV for my son. He has been riding my wifes 250 but it is too big. I currently own 2 Hondas but I am not sure I want a Honda for him since it doesn't have reverse, isn't an automatic and they only have 1 style. The Polaris Outlaw which has all of these features is cheaper and I hear they are reliable.

Does anyone have any experience with the Polaris Outlaw 90 or the Honda TRX90?

Advice?

Thanks,
Jeff

The Honda is a great handling, solid buletproof machine that will take anything a kid can dish out! Both my kids learned on them, and I have ketp one for friend's kids to learn on, and after a dozen years it is still going strong!

They are however a bit on the large side, so they aren't for the really little ones.

Hey Reconranger,

I think we talked when I was trying to put a winch on my Rancher. Thanks for the information regarding the Honda 90, I love my two Hondas but my boy doesn't like the looks of the Honda90 and I am disappointed that they still have not made an automatic with reverse. He saw the Outlaw and likes the looks of it and it is automatic and has reverse.

I'm leaning towards another Honda because I have a good relationship with the dealer, it will be more conveinent for servicing and Hondas have a great reputation but man does the Outlaw look good. Some guys at the office ride Polaris and really like them as well.

I need to make up my mind soon before they are all gone for Christmas.

Thanks for the input!

There is going to be just as much dealer support for Polaris as there is for the honda and I believe the honda is going to be quite a bit more expensive. You can also take a look at the new Raptor 90. It doesn't have reverse but it is an auto and has double a-arms for better handling up front. And if you're son doesn't like the styling of the raptor he's crazy!

The Honda is indeed more expensive, but it is really in a different class than all the other mini's. Look at the magazine shootouts, and the Honda has won every one easily. They really hold their value as well, when the kids are grown and you go to sell it.

Good time to learn to shift when you are a kid! There are so many adults out there that are handicaped (limited choice of machines!), because they can't seem to muster the brain cells/coordination necessary to shift a manual.

I've always thought it would be a good idea to get a used youth ATV since the kids grow out of them so fast and there's tons of people trying to sell them off. Maybe then you could find one cheaper. I've also read the honda is a great, reliable machine, but I wouln't call it "in a class of its own". If the Polaris has all the features your son wants at a less expensive price, it should definitely last him for the small amount of time these youth quads are used. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
