Default 450 Question!

I don't like any of the 450's for trail riding. They are all rev, and that means you have to do a lot of clutch slipping on tight trails, and that gets real old fast. The best trail quads are the 400EX, Z400, and Raptor 700.

For the track, I like the YFZ. For wide open country, I like the R. I ride my R exclusively in the desert, and the thing screams and corners like it is on rails, and I can bash huge desert whoops at full speed!

I'd say the YFZ is a great all arounder. It's a great on-track machine, and is one of the better 450 machines in terms of being able to ride track and trail.

However, if he would be almost always on the track and very rarely on the trail I would go with an LT-R. Really low center of gravity and it handles great.

well out of all the 450's i believe the suzuki is the most race ready of the group (excluding the limited editions), but none of them are really that great on the trails... really their all close to the same, all that remains in the choice is which color and brand you like. i have always been a yamaha boy so i say go with the yfz.

KTM is what drives me, but theres still some blue in my blood...

The LT-R is a good bet as they come stock with most of what he will need for MX. I would skip the '04/'05 Honda's for mx unless it is already setup. The YFZ is proven and a great allaround machine.

Hey DeathVallyReaper, I was just wondering why you don't think the Limited Edition LT-Rs are race ready? Isn't the only difference just the paint job? I've never rode a "Regular" LT-R so I don't really know the difference.

i was talking about the bill ballance and GYTR editions that come out with all the cookies already on it. the limited editions are no different then the non- limiteds. i was just trying to compare the flat factory bikes and not the racer editions, i should have clearified that...

sorry...
