If I buy used I want to at a dealer so I at least get the reassurence that it's been checked over.My polaris which i bought from a private owner had 10 hours on it and I've known the guy all my life. It's a 12 year old machine that has before I got it had only been ridded about 8 times. It even had the little ***** on the tires from the mold.I maintain my machine to the tee but I'm lucky because it's a 2 stroke.I will not buy used from a private seller if I can help it.I will either buy used from a dealer or new from a dealer.

Not a good idea in Ontario Canada. Once a used ATV gets into the hands of a dealer you have to pay two taxes (Fed and Provincial), rather than only one tax (Provincial) if its sold private, plus the dealer will charge more for it than they paid from the previous owner, there not buying it so they can sell it for the same price or less.

Plus a private seller can write you a fake cheaper bill of sale for that one tax, while a dealer has to write the full amount which you pay two Taxes on.

Better to get to the owner before the dealer does. Look it over ? I will do that. There ATVs not space shuttles, one look and one ride will tell you if its any good or not.

Why buy used when you can buy new at dealer cost or below!

I would say do not buy it for that price, there is a local website where I live and here are some 400's listed with years and prices: 2004 KFX400 (same as z400 just different color plastic) $2,400 and it has extras!!! Next is 2003 z400 for $2,500! Next is 2004 z400 with trailer and many extras on quad for $2,500 for both!!! Next is another 2004 z400 with $1,500 bucks worth of upgrades for $2,600! Next is 2004 KFX 400 with skid plates for $3,000! Next is 2004 z400 Limited Edition for $2,500(all stock). There is a 2006 z400 for $4,495 with skidplates. Next, 2003 KFX400 for $3,399. Next, 2006 KFX400 for $3,000. Next, 2007 z400 for $4,750. Another is a 2003 z400 for $2,900. That is just a few to list, there are many more. I also have a kfx400 with many upgrades that I will sell for 3,200 so this is proof that the guy trying to sell it for 4k is tryin to rip u off!!! if u have any questions feel free to ask.

Why not? It's not like it has any miles on it. It still gets the same mechanical treatment before being placed in your hands. I bought my LTR for $4000 less than MSRP because it was an 08, we purchased it in October @ the ATV show in Toronto,it was the floor model there. So far not a single problem with it. Sure it may have a scratch or two that a new one wouldn't have, but does it honestly really affect it? It's an ATV, it's gonna get scratched, I don't care.

Plus the dealer gave us $1000 off (trade in on my Baja 90) and a free 1 year warranty.

I am in Tennessee...The website is www.golsn.com click on recreational vehicles or type in 400 and click recreational vehicles to the left hand side and you can see just the 400's on the website... please ask more questions i'd be happy to answer them and if you find any you like tell me what they are and I can call and negotiate the price with them so you wont have to call long distance.

Dealers tend(in my area atleast) to leave the machines outside, plus if it's a demo that everyone has ridden you don't know what to expect.JMO
