Which used Big Bore Utility to get?
#1
I am looking to get rid of my raptor and get a used Big Bore 4x4. Looking to spend around 4K so figuring an 05 model. I rid in northeastern PA which is mostly rocky trails, a good amount of water/mud holes, and some fireline straightaways. I want a soft/comfortable ride to soak up all the rocks, be able to run through water and mud, and something that will give me some "pop" when I hit the throttle althougth I know it won't be the same as the raptor.
I am thinking a Grizzly 660 is probably best but what about Sportsman 800 or a Brute Force 750 or somethng else? Appreciate any suggestions

Get a yamaha grizzly, or a suzuki kingquad.Don't go with a polaris i have heard too many horror stories. There seem to be a lot of grizzly 660's used on the market, along with suzuki kingquads and suzuki vinsons. These quads would be your best bet and are meant for havin fun. My dad and i just got a new kingquad 400 and its amazing, but the big bore thats your looking for would be another step up from ours. Hope this helps

I may be biased but I would choose the sportsman 800 first. It is an awesome machine and with the "NEW" XP's coming out there will probably be some good deals to be had from trade-in's and folks wanting to sell their 800's so they can buy an XP. Also if you're going to get a "big bore then get the biggest baddest one you can! The other machines you mentioned are not TRUE 4 wheel drives. The Sportsman is!
Take care and good luck!

I would go with the Yamaha first, Brute Force second though I don't like their diff lock and then the Sportsman. Polaris does not have an overall really good reputation for reliability, but many individual machines are. I really liked my 05 700 Sportsman and did not have a minutes worth of trouble out of it and the man I sold it to uses it like a tank and it is still running strong. Without knowing the history of a machine, buying used is always iffy and I would recommend having it checked out by a mechanic prior to purchase if necessary. I was able to get a written warranty on my first used ATV from the owner believe it or not as he had faith in his bike.

All are good quads. Polaris is probably the most comfortable to ride. I have a bad disk in my back and I can ride the Polaris all day without too much problem. I think the 05 and newer have the front storage box. I have a ton of gear in mine. They are all about equal on ground clearance. Sporstman and Brute about equal in power. Not sure if the Brute had EFI then. I don't think so. But not sure. Fuel injection is nice in the cold weather. Cranks right over. If the Grizzly of that time had the straight axle, I would avoid it on the comfort issue. My .02 worth. Again, all are good quads.

I think that statement right there narrows down the pack in a hurry. You won't find a better riding ATV than Polaris. Of course, any of the other big names may suit you just fine. Can't argue with the durability of Yamaha. A used 660 Grizz may be just fine for you. My son's 400 Arctic Cat doesn't ride too bad either... but nowhere near my Sportsman. I haven't ridden a Kawi, but I have ridden a KQ, and it rides similar to my sons Cat.
Good luck with your choice.
