As always, the most important thing is reliability and value. You guys have value down pat, but still haven't quite shown you can build a reliable product. I'm driving a 1986 Suzuki ATV. Can you guys build an ATV that lasts that long? Once you show you can, then you might be able to rope in more business. Also, you need to have parts available for your vehicle, this is crucial to your long term success.
Other trends I can think of are independent rear suspension, and fuel injection. KTM also just produced that electric dirt bike and there might be an electric ATV to follow. But no one knows for sure if that will catch on.

china built atvs are not put together with the quality that they should be. i mean somthing will break eventualy. but when its time to replace a part, i dont wanna run around looking for somewhere that sells them, and i really dont wanna hear that the part im looking for has been discontinued. and as far a reliability,,, if i have to fix a quad everytime i get done riding it, then that quad might as well have a " fragile, handle with care" sticker on it.
for a little kid running around the yard, im sure chinese atvs be great, but if i buy a 250 or 300 for myself.. i dont wanna ride worrying that i might lose an important part on the trails.
if quality and reliability is added to chinese built atvs, then mabye people wouldnt feel nervous when they see the words "MADE IN CHINA"...

This is an excellent question and provokes thought, alot of it. If I were in the position of developing and manufacturing an ATV and wanted to create a loyal market base, I would:
Decide what area of ATV's that I wanted to specialize in, Utility, Sport, or whatever the case may be, and I would do my level best to build the best.
If I were going to go with Utility I would look at the competition and determine which features I wanted to have and find a way to perfect what is already out there. I think it would be foolish to build a completely different mousetrap with the hopes of swaying people towards something that is not proven to be reliable.
If you follow a proven strategy, such as Lexus, they introduced the Lexus back in 1989 with the LS400 and it was subjectively "the best luxury car in the world", right off the showroom floor. The car was offered at a low price compared to its competitors and offered better quality, and ultimately became a status symbol of success. Hyundai is doing the same thing as we speak with its Genesis car, and they are rapidly developing a "quality" reputation. They were not a quality car company when they first came out, and had terrible engines and resale value.
Quads would be no different. IMO, if a chinese company brought a clone of a Yamaha Grizzly, or a Polaris XP, or a Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki, or whatever to the market with the same features, and did their level best to improve on what is already there, they would be successful. IMO, the American people will buy whatever is the best value to them. Of course a dealer network would have to be established providing service after the sale. You can't have fun with a broken quad no matter what brand it is. I would investigate using an existing company here in the states to sell the product through, maybe Sears, Ace Hardware, or the like. Sears would probably be the best if that would even be possible, idk. I believe that Harley-Davidson is leaving alot of money on the table by not building a quad. They already have the network and following of millions of people I don't know why they don't.
