$300 for a extra 10 hp is pretty good. It takes a $1300 stage five kit to gain power like that Aaen Performance - Polaris ATV 500

Plus a twin is a smoother engine vs a single cylinder. It s not like the 550 is lighter then the 800 either both weigh over 700lbs anyways.

On the other hand the 550 has a $300 winch and a longer cruising range due to its smaller motor and much lager gas tank.

Out of those two choices I would personally go with the 800,(I like to have the power!) BUT I would see if for another 3-4 hundred bucks I could get the XP 850, it would be worth it to me to pay that much more for yet another 15-20 horsepower for a much better machine! JMO! Good luck!

Thats a tough one. One thing I have learned is that you you always want more power so try to buy the most you can up front. I know the 550 will do everything you want it to, but the 800 will do it quicker.

Bought the 800 yesterday, went to test drive it and gave it some throttle and front end came off the ground, now thats power LOL.

Now shopping around for wench and plow, was not very impressed with Polaris blade and there winch's where over priced

Good choice bying the 800 over the 550. Don't get me wrong but it is much smoother than a single cylinder. I have a 2007 800 sportsman and buddy with the kawasoki on the polaris site there must not be anybody on the kawi forum that's why your here mang lol. head ported, throttle body bored, high perf. cam, advanced timing key, full exhaust, K&N air filter, power commander usb, fully clutched with team clutches and 30" mud light tires and approx 15" of ground clearance so follow me kawasoki puke forces.

Good choice man. That 800 will have plenty of power and keep you busy for a while. I think my next Atv is going to be a 850 XP
