Default New to atv's, thinking about buying...

Hi everyone, new guy here!

Ive just recently got back from all my training with the army and have a nice bonus sitting around and nothing to spend it on

Been thinking about getting a atv, Ive only road one before, an older honda rancher... so I dont really know anything about quads, except all the places around where I live to ride, a quad wouldnt be too fun so Im mainly looking for a utility.

The only ones that have really caught my eye are the new Honda rancher and kawi brute force 650... I like the brute more. Id like to keep it around 6k for the price and wondering what the best buy would be for some moderate trail riding/mudding.

Just need to get rid of my civic and get a truck so I can haul it lol.

Welcome to the forum! The first thing you need to do is test ride a few models and go with the one that suites YOU best the Kawi 650 is a great choice o(one of the fastest for its class) but there will be plant of other choices to look at as wee such as Polaris 500 (BEST riding) quad made the Suzuki 450 and 500 (Best all arounder) Arctic Cat 650 Yamaha 450 (now with power steering) Just a few for you to look at and think about. IMHO I would look at all but the Honda as Honda does make a long lasting machine but they also come with the least amount of power with the least amount of bells and whistles! Hope that helps Happy trails!

I agree with Dodge57Hemi on this one. When I got back into ATV's things had really changed alot. I was out of them for about 5 years. So I just went to the different dealers around and talked to them. Did some reading, and most important I test rode the models I was interested in. Good luck and thanks for your service.

brute force, look for dealers that have hold overs, my son bought one from holiday motor sports for alittle over 7k (750i nra edition)not a hold over, an they delivered it from jackson mi. to his house 20mi east of jackson ms. the next day so if you do some shopping i think you can find one in your range, i have a 06 650i ibought 3yrs ago for 2k with 147hrs an 470mi, and just saw a 08 sell for 5k on another forum, my first choice would be brutes 2nd would be can ams, so many mods out there for these also

If your talking about the older 350 Rancher there pretty slow ,lucky if it hits 45mph on the gravel roads from what I seen riding with one.

if you want bang for your buck, check out the suzuki king quad lineup. they have good features and are fairly reliable for the price. i am partial to honda, so i am trying my best to give an unbiased opinion. good luck from one brother in arms to another!

If you want a machine that rides more than it breaks It's Honda, yamaha, suzuki, I wouldnt even put kawasaki or polaris on this list I'm not tryin to be a douche I've owned both brands and have friend with them still..Unless you trade in every 3 years and don't use them much.. I understand some people have good luck with both brands..Me and my fellow riders have not.

quick question. my friend and i are having and argument. Are quads with racks called utility quads or are they called rancher quads. Correct me if im wrong but i think they are called utility quads and rancher refers to the Honda Rancher, right?

You are correct, utility covers all brands. The Rancher is a Honda model
