Currently own a '96 Scrambler 400 4x4 and '96 TrailBoss. Considering selling Trailboss to buy a new 4x4. I really like the 4x4 of the Scrambler but with no low range, riding in some low speed situations is not so easy. Considered the Rubicon or Rancher but I'm afraid I would be disappointed with the 4x4 performance after having Polaris. Anyone made the move from Polaris to any other type of 4x4 and been satisfied with it? Thanks for any replies.

have you looked at the Arctic Cats? They make great machines that are very reliable and have less maintenance than the Polaris. I think you would be very happy with these unless you are wanting something with the same speed as the scrambler. Then the Arctic Cats are not a good choice.

I have no problems with having no low range on my Scrambler. I pulled my buddies out of the mud plenty of times with no problems. Slow going isn't bad either. Its the quads with EBS that you gotta whatch out for when going slow because of the clutching.

After some research for the type of riding that I do (a little of everything) I had to go with the scram 500 4x4. No shifting for the wife, so she can haul the kid, enough power for just about everything, been in snow and a slushy 1'6" x20' long puddle, in lt. sand and rocky terrain and some moderate jumps. Its been great so far and I will push it hard im sure lets see if it will hold up.

Did you consider the Xplorer 400 4x4 from Polaris? Same engine and same basic frame as the 400 Scrambler, but with low range (and a little more weight). Might be worth looking into.

Have you considered a Sportsman 500? It has low-range, and you wouldn't have to give up the comfortable ride of the Polaris.

Go with the Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. Same motor as the Scrambler 500. It has low range. True four wheel drive. The most ground clearance on any stock wheeler and it has a smoothest ride.
