Default First ATV

I am 13 and was looking into ATV's to get soon. As I said, I am 13 but I am 5,11" and a half and weigh 110 lbs. I figured $3000 would be an ok budget. Oh, and I will just be trail riding and I don't care how fast it goes. Thanks!

If it's trail riding without much mud or large rocks a sporty quad would be good. Honda 300EX, Yamaha Raptor 350 or 250. Or a smaller utility quad like the Honda Recon. All are pretty bulletproof.

It makes a difference on what state you're in. Some have laws about what age you have to be to ride different ATVs. You might be limited as to what you can ride until you're 16. It doesn't matter how big you are or how much experience you have either.

Take an ATV safety course. You may be required to per state law anyway, but it's a good idea. I wouldn't start out with a sport bike. They have manual clutches. Get you a Honda Foreman or a Rancher.

ATV safety course= great idea. Physically you are big enough to ride most anything, but I would stay away from the big bore/open class machines and the heavier full size utilities. Something like a 300EX or Recon would be perfect. Don't worry about the manual clutch, it isn't hard to learn. Heck, if you were into dirt bikes you would have no choice but to learn a manual at this stage.

I would suggest getting a honda 300ex. They are nearly impossible to break and It has reverse. There are plenty of aftermarket parts. Don't go out to the dealership and buy a brand new quod for 4,000+ dollars because you can find some really nice used stuff on craigslist. With about 2,000 dollars you can get just about any 300ex you want on craigslist. Just don't overpay because there are tons of them out there
