Congrats on scoring a deal. Wasn't much risk when you get something for free. Worst case would have been parting it out and making something off it.

Glad to see you're still around. A 350 for free is a lot better deal than a 125 for whatever the price was. Sometimes you get lucky.

Going up 1" on tires will give you 1/2" more clearance. Not worth it IMO unless you need new tires anyway. A 1" lift with the new tires would help keep you a little higher out of the water but maybe not enough.
