Purchasing First ATV ever. New. Purchase Fess Cost Questions.
#1
Hi,
I am new here (from Maryland) and am purchasing a new ATV in less then two months when I move to my new home. I ride a motorcycle here and there but have never been off road. I am looking at buying a new 2017 Honda Foreman 4x4 ES EPS. I was surprise to get a quote like I was buying a car.
I asked for a plow be installed but I know I can save cost doing it myself. Are these fees normal? negotiable?
MSRP: $8,199.00
Price: $6,799.00
Freight $380.00
Setup $335.00
DocFee $199.00
TAX $445.00
Title/Reg $150.00
Went from looking at $6,800 price tag to a $8,300 price tag

MSRP is $8,199 so they were telling the truth about that. The destination charge is $380. That must be the freight they listed. I don't know about the other charges but there sure are a lot of them. Did they mention the $200 bonus bucks you're supposed to get?

They did mention the $200 bonus bucks but I am most worried about all the charges.
I never purchased a ATV before so I am trying to find out if these are negotiable and if they are not are these the same prices other dealers charge.

Well, taxes are taxes. Gotta pay the .gov ya know. Setup is just that, the fee to uncrate the machine, assemble it, top off the fluids and function check it. That may be negotiable depending on the dealer. Freight is delivery from factory to dealer and may be negotiable. Doc fees are usually dealer profit. Title/reg seems high, that is something you could check with your local DMV. Honda sells well and at least the local dealers don't really care to negotiate much.

Money talks and poop walks.
Shop around, if you have cash in hand, you can probably do a bit better. Hondas are good, but thats quite a lot for that model. I think you can buy a 700 cc bike from other makers for less.

I live in NW Ohio and that would be a high price in my area as they are advertised for less out the door. If that price included the plow mount and setup then that might be different. Honda makes great machines but they have had their issues with the electric shift machines so you might want to research that some more. If your battery ever goes dead you can't shift into neutral to push it....your stuck. Hopefully you have sat on it and rode one before deciding, never...ever...buy a machine with out a good test ride, there is nothing worse than buying a machine that you are uncomfortable with!! Good luck

There is a little wiggle room for negotiations, but it's not as high of a percentage as a car. However....ask the dealer for his best out the door price for the bike to set up the way you want it. Shop around and get as many dealer offers as you can. Also as others have said....Test Ride the bike b4 you sign anything. And test ride different machines. You might be surprised to find a bike you like more that has a better out the door price.(honda's are one of the highest priced quads on the market for what the bike has to offer)

That's not a bad price for an ES EPS Honda Foreman. Fees are pretty typical. If you really want to shift for yourself, Honda is the only one left. Everything else is a cvt auto, which is what most buyers want. For about the same price you could get a Yamaha Kodiak 700 EPS, which has a lot more power. The Polaris Sportsman 570 EPS would also be in the same price range, again a lot more power than the Honda. The Can-Am Outlander 450L DPS also has more power than the Honda and would most likely cost less. I can understand if you really want a Honda but there are other choices out there if you're not 100% brand loyal.
