If it's a sport quad, I'd get more experience before getting one. Working the clutch on rough trails can get tough. A utility machine in that size can still get up to the mid-50's speed wise. But, it's more controllable power than one of the bigger machines. I would suggest taking an ATV safety class if there are any with the whole Covid thing going on. If you have friends that ride see if they'll let you try out their quads under their supervision. Maybe you can get a better feel for what you'd need. If you anticipate slightly rocky trails, little to no snow, minimal mud, you can get away with a sport quad. If you anticipate, trails with larger rocks, roots, and/or deeper mud and snow, go with a 4wd utility machine.

Not sure who still has sport quads so my opinion is based more on past machines. If I were to get a trail machine with good power but not as crazy as the 450's I'd go with a Honda 400ex. Bullet proof reliability and tough. Have a buddy who's taken it through and over stuff that I couldn't begin to get over with a sport quad.
