Hi i am 15 yrs old and am 5'10 180 pounds. I am looking at buying a new atv. these are what i am looking at because of my price range(around 3 gran). Bayou 220, yamaha blaster, polaris trailblazer, used 2000 lakota, used 1998 scrambler 400. Now im not looking to race or anything. I usually trail ride with my friends (sleds) and we r all selling um to get quads. we will prolly ride the same as on our sleds. Take trail rides for a couple hours and find dirt pits to jump and/or screw around. Which do you think?

My first ATV was a Blaster. Great little quad if you're looking for speed. Today I own a Bayou 220 and TRX 300. The Bayou is a snail compared to the Blaster with the TRX falling somewhere between the two. The Blaster is also a two-stroke which makes it great for speed and acceleration, yet high-maintenance compared to a four-stroke.

If I were younger and in your shoes, I would go with the quickest four-stroke.

Have you considered the Honda 250EX? There are a few of them used on the market now for about the price range you are looking for. I see guys with the kind of needs in a machine like yours everyday. In the price range you are talking about, they usually take the Blaster because it's the only machine that fits in that price range new. But it isn't what I would call the ideal trail machine.

I would peronally go with the Blaster. It is a little more maintenance but it is faster and if you are planing on jumpin and all that it is a better bike and is good for a beginner.. But thats just my opinion.. Its up to you.

Good idea to test ride them both. You will see how the Blaster is built for speed and sport while the Bayou is pure utility.

I would recommend the Yamaha Warrior 350 as a good choice. I think you're a little too big height and weight-wise for a Blaster, and you'll probably prefer the Warrior's strong 4-stroke torque over the Blaster's peaky 2-stroke powerplant. They are a very versatile and reliable quad; and they haven't changed much over the 15 years they've been around. It's power won't dissappoint you, yet it also won't kill you. You can find a used one pretty cheap too.
It deserves a look.
